What batteries are out there that are superior to the OEM rubbish but shave a few pounds?
I'm looking for the best weight reduction I can get on my BRZ that I STILL DAILY DRIVE (but also AutoX and will soon be tracking).
Thoughts?

I got this Shorai battery https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 which weighs about 3 pounds and was decently priced. It's been on since April 15 and hasn't given me any issues here in the Los Angeles weather.

No experience with the 950, but I had the PC925 and PC680 in other vehicles and loved them...plan to put a PC680 (the metal jacket version) in the FR-S when it's time to replace the battery.

I went with the largest Shorai in my FR-S and it died within 6 months...$200+ wasted...if you use a Shorai I would highly suggest keeping it on a battery tender at all times and watch battery voltage like a paranoid person, making sure it NEVER drops below 13.1 volts. Hawker Odyssey batteries are proven, reliable batteries in all situations from my experience while a Shorai is not. Shorai is too much hassle for daily driving, very easy to kill if you let the voltage drop below 13 volts...and the CCA rating is an 'equivalent', the actual amp throughput of the battery is MUCH lower in measurable output...

For dependability, I'd suggest you stick with a good full sized battery.

I don't see how a 2-3 pound weight savings is going to make any significant difference on an autoX or track.

Well that Odyssey is a nice 10 pounds lighter... I just don't know if it'll fit yet

Some members have the Shorai battery on their cars and have been fine even in freezing temperatures. It weighs about 3 lbs, but you will have to fabricate your own battery tie down. I know Odyssey also sells lightweight batteries and they sell a tie down kit as well along with it.

It fits and is indeed a lot lighter. I've been running an Odyssey PC680 for quite some time now. Light, small, cheap, works. No issues.

Do you use the PC680MJT with te SAE terminals? Do you have to run any adapters on it? And how on earth do you get away with 170CCA???

I use the standard PC680 (not the MJT) with Odyssey's SAE terminals. http://www.batterymart.com/p-odyssey-sae-terminals . No adapters needed.

The CCA arms race is just that. I mean really, how many CCAs does a starter motor on a 2.0L H4 really need? Answer, not nearly as many as people have been slowly led to believe (over years of PR). The Odyseey PC680 has started my car regularly without need for a jump even when I needed to crank it multiple times due to e85 cold start issues (which I resolved by adding 1 gal of 91 to my 10 gals of e85, not by adding a bigger battery). It just works. From what I understand some battery mfgs over rate their batteries CCAs, so now everyone is looking for as many CCAs as they can get, but not really needing it.
