@humfrz may have coined a new phrase here:

Jaguar - a woman that starts out as a beautiful, sporty, performance model but falls apart after several years due to increased maintenance costs.

Maybe this was mentioned, but there are many types of therapists and inside of each discipline, there are many different ways of practicing therapy. Some therapists might have a master's, PHD or MD. Some might deal with basic mental health issues or might deal with relationships like a marriage-family therapist (MFT). Some might specialize in sexual abuse or childhood trauma for children and/or adults. Some might specialize in PTSD or other issues stemming from military service. Some might specialize in addictions or behavioral disorders like OCD or hoarding. Some might specialize in schizophrenia, multiple personalities or severe bipolar.

I would suggest getting a referral from your PCP or call your insurance. While any therapist is better than no therapist, just like going to any doctor is better than not going to a doctor, sometimes it is necessary going to a specialist depending on what you are dealing with. From there, you will find brand new therapists who are green and seasoned therapists who could be burned out and everything in between, so like others say, it might take a few therapists to find one that you feel matches your personality and is capable of offering the services you feel will lead to the best success.

There are reviews online and search engines for finding therapists. I don't know how well those work, so you might just need to roll the dice or ask around.
