At some level that would be cool, although technically, the First 86 deliveries weren't really special editions.

They were pulled from the first shiploads based on the preference (color, transmission) of the buyer. We just received them 30 days before any other FR-S buyers in the US, and they later sent us a couple of special plaques for the cars (one that fits in the console and one that fit in the glovebox).

Mine is a relatively low VIN, but there are persons that received delivery later that have lower VINs than those delivered to the First 86 group, they just received them later.

Mind you, we did get a lot of extra stuff, including a 3 day all expenses paid trip to Long Beach for the Easter weekend reveal and first test drives.

That's special enough for me. All I got was a gas card and I would have received that if I bought a Crosstrek.

Well...

It turns out once the insurance company starts spending money, things start happening.

I picked up a rental car on Tuesday. Today I got a call from my preferred shop that they suddenly had room to give me an estimate and State Farm wanted the car in today.

Fair enough, took it in.

We did a preliminary look while I was there, and the news is not good. Looks like the trunk floor and the inner quarter panel are tweaked enough that it will have to be repaired. This was the part I was afraid of. Not the final word yet, but I'm up to the 99.998% surety level that it will be totaled out.

Damn...sad day.

generally how insurance works. if you want them to finish something, spend their money first.

That's funny.

I hope they fix it. Sucks when you got a perfectly good, good looking car with a low book value and someone hits you. You get screwed.

Yea, there is but its all going to come down to what they find when they pull off the bumper cover and the trunk lining. Not sure when I will hear back.

I told the adjuster to use 3rd party parts or whatever was needed to keep the price down. Not sure that's even a thing with these cars.

If they write it off see if you can buy it back for peanuts and have it rebuilt yourself. If like here the body shop costs for a private job are a fraction of the shop rates for an insurance one.
The shop that repaired my FRS quoted me $500 to respray the front bumper through insurance or $150 if I was paying myself.

I had thought about that, but I really don't want to deal with the whole salvage title thing. Pretty sure my insurance company wouldn't cover it at that point.

If the accident was my fault, I would consider not filing a claim and just pay out of pocket to have it fixed, but since it isn't I guess I'll just let it play out.

Well you are in Georgia so you could always buy it back and just leave it parked on the front yard.

If he was in Buckhorn it would have to be a Bentley.

For the rural south, I think you can just ditch the engine block in the tall grass. 😉

It would make a great mailbox/Amazon drop box.

I think you meant Buckhead, but yea, sounds about right.

And no self respecting Southerner would ditch a perfectly good engine block in the grass. We'd either turn it into a coffee table, or turn it in to the scrap yard for beer money.
