Worth it to replace or just keep it as is?
Terrible thing happened today...hit a curb and now have a curb rash on my rims, which I don't mind at all. It's not too bad.
However, my side skirt got damaged and I was wondering if it was worth it to replace it or keep it as is...

Sorry for your misfortune. If it were me, It would make me mad every time I looked at it. YMMV.

The curb rash, sure, but I guess I can live with that. Kind of like a scar. The side skirt though....such an eyesore...

look up the price from subaru, then think about ordering from jon motoring, then find a black sharpie. Its on the passenger side, so you wont see it unless you look.

Maybe I'm crazy, but the messed up wheel would bother me soooooooo much more than the side skirt.

try and track down the colour code to those wheels and acquire paint and other supplies necessary to perform the surgery. It doesn't appear to be heavy on the metallic (like subi's Java black pearl.. mmm) so you may be able to sand down and go at it. Mind you it'll always look off because the grooves in the rash.
Plastic is harder to paint over. It'll require a different approach and more attention |

You can use a sanding sponge to flatten out the wheel and use touch up paint. Put masking tape around the parts that are still good. Use a couple of thin coats of touch up and try to apply going around the wheel. From there you can either wetsand to flatten it or just leave it, it is possible fix most of it and no one will notice unless they look for it. Also good that it is black.
The side skirt you can try dupli color trim paint. The problem is it will probably make a textured spray pattern and the color wont match. You can also paint the whole thing(so it matches) or spray it on something and use a small brush or toothpick to apply it to the damaged areas. Marker is quick and easiest. (or paint marker) OOOR pay a body shop to fix it and color match it to the body, just hope it matches good. Blue series is 3 stage I believe. Base, top, clear. OR paint it black. |

I was thinking of buying a new side skirt but it's $560. Not for nothing, but I love the OEM STI parts which is why it's annoying me that the rim and the side skirt got messed up...

I'd fuckin cry. That would absolutely bug the hell out of me. If it was me, I'd sharpie the blemishes in the short term.

Ouch! That made me cringe a little. If it were me, I'd give it about a week or so if I was thinking about whether or not I should get it replaced. If you do have it done professionally, it'll probably be on the cars record saying the car had body work done.
Personally though, I'd look into how the side skirts are bolted, if it's simple....do it yourself. Saves you some cash to boot. I would look into buying OEM replacement. With regard to your wheels....paint it. Odds are, you'll scrape one or the other some other time. It happens. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
