I seem to be hearing this a lot. I may just go towards that direction as I don't feel the need to have 20" barrel. Thank you, sir.

Think of it like this, the longer the barrel is AFTER the gas port, the longer the bullet remains in the barrel, and the more gas is pushed to the firing chamber. An 18" barrel only has a small bit of distance between a rifle gas position and the end of the barrel and its only gassing the action during the time between the bullet passing the gas port and exiting the barrel. It's the same reasoning that explains why carbine gas systems on 16" barrels are so harsh.

That said, you would get more velocity out of a longer barrel, but given the relatively limited range of the 223/556 round, it's not that big of a deal, IMO.

That makes a lot of sense, thank you. I never really looked into it that much.

You mean M82a1 or M95? Barrett, to my knowledge, never made an M85, but General Electric did... it was an M2 replacement....

I'll try to dig up some photos of my friend's guns. He's got an ACR and a Kriss Vector. I absolutely LOVE his ACR. That gun is amazing.

With the Five-Seven, I didn't realize how much I flinch at the thought of $1 per round and the difficulty of replacing that $1 round.

I'll post up a new pic of my handguns in a few days, but my current favorite is a HK P30LS. But I'll be getting an P226 Elite Dark soon, so we will see.

I've one of these
[ame]http://youtu.be/Fjt6eVIxukU[/ame]

Accurate enough that I'm popping heads off dandelions at around 100yrds.

I was doing full bore shooting as well with a local club.
At the time I was using the club guns and favouring 7.62s (all bolt action since that is all you're basically allowed in the UK). I was looking at getting a firearms license to allow me to buy my own rifle but it was during the financial crisis and having gone to zero overtime and a 10% pay cut I basically decided it wasn't worth the expense.

I did some serious shooting in France before that though on a week training course. Basic gun safety, principles of marksmanship and then training on M4s, AK74s, Remington 700, L1A1 slr, glock 17, browning high power, sig P226, S&W .357 magnum

Absolutely cracking time had. Particularly the pistols since those are a definite no no in the UK
