Low speed tires squealing

Hi bros,

Loving my 86 and I love the playfulness character of the car... HOWEVER, I've noticed at low speeds if I take a sharp corner (eg. leaving the car park) the tires tend to be squeal happy. I've got no issue with this personally, however it gets a lot of negative attention from people and makes me look like a young kid who loves doing stupid skids in car parks. (I've been told off by older people too... wtf???? )

Anyways, the car is stock as a rock... Just wondering if this is normal behavior from the traction control kicking in. My dad's got the theory it could have something to do with wheel alignment.

Note: I've noticed this is common here in Australia when it's really hot during summer.

Cheers,

I believe you are hearing the differential attempting to lock which is normal. Our car does not have an open diff like most cars.

Especially when its hot, your tires probably have more grip which is just grabbing more and the LSD is attempting to lock.

This might help explain if you are unfamiliar with this.

Never seen that series of videos before and they are really well done! Added to favorites for the noobs that need the basics.

Yep, differential. Right at the 4 way stop on my street, there's always some dirt because the street is low there and it settles there from the rain.
I feel like neighbors are looking at me like I need to slow down when the tires are peeling out from slowly making that turn from the stop sign.

Exact same thing here, about twenty feet from my driveway. Doesn't matter how slow I go, there's always some rear wheel spin.

Ah yes thank you! I did a little research on LSD and I understand it better. I had a feeling it could've been related to the diff but for some reason I was expecting a modern diff to prevent little squeals

Nope. The only way to prevent the squeal is to coast through the corner. Rarely practical so just enjoy it. ...because racecar.

Soo is it weird if I've never had this issue? Even back when I had stock tires, I didnt get any squealing unless I actually hit the gas (>4k RPM in first gear) when making a turn.
