I hope you're doing well.

I've had the same experience with the flying doctors I've met, including a new partnership with my Ophthalmologist in his general aviation aircraft.

It's also uncanny how many are into cycling. It's reassuring knowing that if I crash on a road ride that there will be a few in the group qualified to assist.

CDC studies showing decline in vaccine effectiveness

Yesterday the CDC released the results of three clinical studies in their weekly Morbidity and Mortality Report which show declining effectiveness of the COVID vaccines in protecting against the Delta variant. These reports apparently were the underlying data on which the decision was made to start offering boosters to everyone:

https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/index.html

I’m puzzled as to how they decided on 8 months after initial vaccination. I have not seen any data which point to that being an optimal time. On the contrary, the Israeli clinical data, along with in vitro studies of antibody titers and neutralization of Delta, suggest that by 5-6 mos post vaccination protection has significantly decreased with the Pfizer vaccine (hence Israel’s decision to offer boosters after 5 mos).

By waiting until 8 mos (plus further bureaucratic delays for many people), breakthrough infections may further increase.

It’s so exciting being a subject in the grand experiment.

You made a claim so the burden of proof is on you

Also, Latana what you posted does not prove anything?
We know breakthrough infections occur with the vaccine. We also know the vaccine drastically reduces the likelihood of hospitalization and complications associated with COVID-19, there are umpteen studies done by actual researchers that corroborate this. You realize news and opinion pieces posted by journalists don’t amount to much in regards to proof, yes?

Such a canned response. Yes I know the burden of proof is on the person making the claim but no one is disputing this anymore so why do I need to go looking up a scientific paper again?

The skeptical part of me says that it is just that it happens to correspond to when the time the first groups in the US got their second shots (I got mine on 1/12/2021).

Then don't make the claim

The reason you won't provide proof is because it doesn't exist but okay

Show me something that isn't news or opinion piece. You just dont like anything that might challenge your beliefs. This isn't a support group.

I think, in reality, that's what life is, isn't it? - a grand experiment. Hell, it may be what the Universe is. Some folks already think of the universe as a giant quantum computer,

We knew going into this pandemic that no-one knew what to do. We've been making this up since day one. The idea is to have, hopefully, smart people doing the making up and rely to the extent possible on the self correcting nature of science to get it as close to right as possible.

With both the threat and the science developing rapidly there often seems to be no solid ground. That freaks some people out. Unfortunately, that's not going to change in the short term. Rampant stupidity just adds to the confusion. If we as a species can muster the cognitive flexibility to deal with the ambiguity - we may survive this.

Some of us cannot manage the ambiguity. They demand instantaneous, concrete, unambiguous answers where there are none. The idea that things are changing constantly and rapidly causes them lots of discomfort. And BOOM - exploding heads.

With the Delta becoming an issue, though, I have begun to wear one more frequently in busy places. I don't go places often, nor do I go when it's busy. To be frank, and I know this is hypocritical, I feel it's a bit silly to go get vaccinate and then still be forced to wear a mask because of bunch of assholes refuse to get vaccinated.

I am all on board for people getting the vaccine. I'm fine with boosters, even. But I'm not going to drink the cool-aid more than I have to because of others. So bring on the heat or whatever else. It's just my standing. So Boom, there's everyone's surprise.
I sincerely respect and appreciate your candor. Thank you for that. No judgement. My wife wears hers all day long at work and I know it sucks. We wear the mask to minimize (not eliminate) what we may unknowingly be shedding even after having been vaccinated. We do it for the greater good, regardless of how others behave, or what they think.

I'm just thankful to have a genuine conversation without all the bullshit posturing and know-it-all, told-you-so attitudes. What the fuck do we know, anyhow? We do the best we can and keep plugging away, God willing.

Well the truth of the matter is, I've adjusted my life quite a bit. I don't go places for social activities for a number of reasons anymore. I don't go places when they are busy and actively avoid them, too. By far the busiest place I go is work and when I workout, I'm usually outside on our turf or when it's a very slow time. When I go out or to places it's usually early in the morning when minimal to no one else is there. But again, I will respect places that require masks and the moment it's mandated again, I will abide.
