Most cars behave more like an airplane wing than an inverted airplane wing - the vast majority have some lift at speed (especially on the back end). Very few cars actually produce significant downforce at speed.

As for an aerodynamic sandwich? I have no idea. I have a masters degree in aerospace engineering with a focus on fluid dynamics and simulation, and I have never heard the term before in my life. Sounds like a marketing buzzword to me...

(In fact, if you Google it, it seems like the only page that Google can find that uses the term is the Toyota page on the GT86, which strangely enough, claims that it "prevents unnecessary downforce" - and here I thought downforce was a good thing for sports cars )

It has no effect whatsoever IMHO. No downforce effect either. If it was on an F1 car then it would be effective. I'm deleting ASAP!

Honestly with our modern technology and economy, I don't see why a company like Toyota can't listen to the demand of its customers a little faster.
I'm not sure a 10hp increase will make that big of a difference.

Looks like nothing to very little has changed.. A couple of bolts and a list of so called features that are already on the current MY cars..
Marketing is making a desperate attempt to make it look updated and interesting.. Best bet is to buy a 2014 at a lower price and ignore the hype about nothing really..
Wasn't expecting anything really.. Most Japanese company's do the 4 year renew/refresh cycle..

But all evidence to the contrary. There are changes and the chief engineer at toyota quoted so. Some updates are better than none as the car is still in it's production infancy. Should no changes be made if they are only few? Seems silly to say.

What are you talking about? What evidence? The car receives running updates and fixes during any given model year. Other than different bolts, everything seems to be the same.. Don't expect anything for a year or two except maybe another 15 "special" editions..

You seriously need to calm down. Re-read the quotes I posted. He states the changes.

Wow, some of you are talking a lot of smack about the aerodynamics of the 86. Without question the zero lift front and rear aero of this car is very real making it aerodynamically neutral for under $30K. It is absolutely one of the most stable cars you can buy at high speeds regardless of price. This is obvious to anyone that actually pushes this car. If you don't know that already, you don't drive the car hard enough and probably shouldn't worry about it.

'Sandwich' is probably some bastardized English translation of Japanese which was originally meant to say 'Master and Lord of the Four Winds Ginsu technology'. Last I checked they don't even eat sandwiches in Japan. Geez, give it a rest peeps.

Till Mazda, Nissan or Honda make anything competitive I'll take my new bolts and be happy waiting for Toyota's response while hanging my ass out and cutting through the air like butter. If you aren't happy with the progress of power updates, blame the competition. And please don't bring up fat pig cars like the Stang, Genesis or Camaro for the love of all that is holy.

Seems you don't know what you're talking about. The chief engineer of the car quoted in many articles the changes and you are telling him he's wrong. You should contact him about his misquotes and stop arguing with me. You obviously know more than he does.
