It's the coilover system from ST that reuses the factory top hats. The X variant. Not sure if that answers your question.

Glad to see your back into the game. You inspired me a few years ago to go with the ACE350 header setup and its still running strong

Removed all the factory installed PPF in preparation for paint polishing, new PPF, and then ceramic coating.

wow, must be really hard on cars to already need polishing on a new car!

Brand new cars often could benefit from a polish. It is especially important if you plan on ceramic coating a car.

Most new cars can actually benefit from a light polish. It's not a paint correction, just enough to get it prepped for coating.

100%

Factory paint is far from perfect - usually looks like an orange peel. I didn't do a full-on color sand, but I definitely did a fair amount of polishing before my ceramic went on.

Got a buddy who's considering doing ceramic as a side-hustle who knows how to color sand. I told him if he wants to give it a shot he's welcome to use my GR86 as advertising if he wants to color sand it for me for less than it'd cost me to get it done elsewhere.

Factory paint isn't flat/smooth. If you get it perfectly smooth before you put PPF and/or ceramic on it, you end up with a finish so reflective that it looks like you could jump right into it. But it's a lot of labor to polish that orange peel off. Probably 90% of the cost of a good ceramic coating is the labor for the paint correction. Actually applying the ceramic is super easy.

What did you do to remove it?

Just let it sit in the sun for at least an hour, then peel it back. Key is to not peel it back at a sharp angle, but kind of straight up or forward angle.

Also I would be cautious doing this on an older car, or at all. I've seen where the paint under the PPF will be a ever so slightly different color, from the extra protection.

installed the Perrin 2.5" resonated yesterday and fit like a glove tbh. But it was pretty boomy/drony at exactly 2-2.5k and worst under decel in that range. But I drove it today and seemed quieter, so that was interesting. Might just need a little time I guess. Outside of that range, its a very tame exhaust even under accel and sounds very quiet at idle.

The minor overrun pops in sport mode are pretty cool.

Was this a 2.5" system for the first gen, or is it a new SKU for '22?

They don't show 2.5" available for the 22 BRZ/86 on their site for some reason, someone here mentioned Perrin said there was a problem with it and were working on it, only 3" fits for now. My guess was it was something that can be easily addressed and it's a bit of a cover-their-ass sort of precaution, but I don't know that I ever saw what the issue was.
