@JoeBoxer and I talked a bunch about wheels for my car before I bought them. His advice is good.

If you're cheap like me, go with 8" wheels because of the option of running 225/45/17.

There's also some thought that 225 on 8" will post better laptimes at stock hp (CSG Mike), and in theory you will retain more steering feel vs. 245 on 9".

I checked out the wheel fitment calculator. I'm looking at 17x8 with +42 offset. It looks awefully close. Anyone have any real world experience with this size?

This is a good option too, it's weird that most people with 17's have 9" width and most 18's are 8" width. I guess thats just what's available there are very few 18x9's out there and they would be getting up there in weight also.

When it comes to wheels/tires, it either fits or doesn't fit. Close is a subjective term.

You should be pretty safe in that size unless planning a huge tire. Lots of guys are running 17x9 +45 with 245 wide tires (some 255's) and although close to the strut, "it clears".

Close is right... this is 18x8.5 +45 front, with a 245/35. I reached inside the rim, pointing straight up for this view.

I've been running 17x9 et42 245/40/17 since about 1000 miles on the car. I'm at 24K miles now.

17x9. you can still run a 225 on that, and the weight increase on the RPF1 is negligible.

Offset Tires

Would I be fine to run 225/35/19 in the front and 245/45/19 in the rear?

Aside from the obvious sidewall height differences, is there any other concern that I should be made aware of with offset tire sizes?

If the diameter is too different, the VSC/TC systems might think one end is slipping, and under braking it could think one end is locking up slightly.

Why wouldn't you run 225/45 up front and 245/35 out back?

245/45/19 is WAY bigger than stock, to the point where it will look quite stupid.

Stock tires are 24.7" tall, 245/45/19 is 27.7" tall.

225/40/19 is 26.1" tall and 255/35/19 is 26" tall. Both are quite a bit taller than stock, but are closer to each other and won't cause issues from being too differently sized.

*edit* - Just saw the title, I think you mean staggered, not offset.

the tires are way too tall and might not even fit in the rear. The car will be slow as shit as well because you're reducing the gearing by 12% with those tall tires.

My question is why are you even considering those sizes?

Edit: I should reply more quickly, WParson was a bit more eloquent

The reason I am considering the tires is that I already have 4 of them. However it appears that I may be better off trying to sell them and get something a bit smaller.
