2013 add backup camera + head unit

I have been thinking about adding a back-up camera and I have found the videos both here and on youtube on how to do it.

The problem is that I have the wrong head unit. I have the base Pioneer unit (https://www.ebay.com/i/123618406689?...BoCXjUQAvD_BwE)

So I need to buy the upgraded version with the touch screen. (something like this: https://www.ebay.com/i/292603047385?...xoCx0MQAvD_BwE)

Anything else I need to know? Harness, wires? (everything for the backup camera will be in that kit)

I have seen some listings say they don't have radio code(s). is it a pain to get from the dealership?

In all honesty, it's probably be easier to just go for an aftermarket head unit rather than try to wire in the touch screen OEM. Most aftermarket units have the ability to connect a backup camera.

Crutchfield.com is a good resource for info and the people in the chat service are fantastic.

I swapped out the head unit in my '13 for a '14 including Nav with no issue, took 15 minutes as its straight plug and play. I did not add the backup camera though.

You would need to make sure the model you are buying supports a backup camera. I'm not sure the one you have in your link does. The '14 model does.

I have the upgraded version you linked. It's sitting in my closet collecting dust. You can add a backup camera, just need to get a pin/wire and wedge it in the correct pin in the back of the unit. Then wire a trigger when it goes into reverse. There was a DIY guide I followed from a member on here the first year I bought the car, think member name was post break or something.

Highly don't recommend that unit btw since it's sitting in my closet. I upgraded to a pioneer 3 years later. The main issue for me was the "shuffle" function doesn't truly shuffle so it'll keep replaying the same songs in order and restarts the same order when you turn off the car.

I replaced my 2013 base HU (like yours) with a 2015 Pioneer/Bespoke PT546-00140 HU. As stated by Dadhawk, it was straight plug and play. Used the same bracket from the base HU. I found a few on eBay and I have seen them for sale here.

Interesting, I didn't know it was plug and play. Maybe this would be way easier then.

The backup camera makes it a little more complicated as I recall but not by much.

There are a few BU cameras that operate on 6.0V. The Rydeen CM-DUO2 is one and the one from Camera Source. https://camera-source.com/automotive...amera-kit.html A bit pricey but includes the wire harness and trigger wire.
This camera is a bit cheaper and also comes with the 16 pin wire harness and trigger wire: https://www.ebay.com/itm/SCION-OEM-I...ss!37801!US!-1
There are cheaper BU cameras out there. Not sure what voltage they need.

Be super cautious with Rydeen DUO2 cameras being sold on ebay. I and another forum member got burned by an ebay vendor selling knockoff Rydeens. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...ghlight=rydeen I got it to work using AutoHarnessHouse's wire harness. https://www.autoharnesshouse.com/19867_add.html

There are only a few online authorized Rydeen vendors.
From Rydeen's site:
"Rydeen Mobile Electronics products purchased from unauthorized online resellers* carry NO WARRANTY from Rydeen, regardless of any claims made by the seller. We have no way of determining whether these products are used, refurbished, counterfeit and stolen or otherwise compromised. Our products must be purchased and installed by authorized retailers as quality of installation is important to us."

Here's the 2014 PT546-00140 HU installation and wire diagram file if anyone needs it: 2014_S-ADG-0158-D.pdf
