Scored camshaft
Scored camshafts picked up when doing valve spring recall, Car has done 45,000km.
Has anyone had same issue, and is this a common problem ,they need replacing. Any feedback appreciated |

Have some pics, not sure how to post them.
They are scored on the camshaft at both ends, more scoring on the cam chain end, and of course the journals |

They do not know what caused the damage, and the wear is not normal, so I think it is some sort of failure maybe even from manufacture

So the cams looked like this when you came in for the recall or after the recall? Looks like damage from oil starvation. I’m surprised you haven’t spun a bearing.

I would check the oil ports for those bearings and make sure they are open.

Just got my car back from recall repair and they also found a heavily scored cam. I called Subie corporate (issue with cams/oil have been documented since 33k) and they told me to kick rocks. I love my car, but don't like the fact that it is a ticking time bomb. I've had the car in and out of the dealer since new and it might be time to part ways. My family owns 3 Subarus (all purchased new) and all have had some type of issue. Good ole oil starvation, gotta love it.

If I've learned one thing from owning my BRZ is that I will never touch another Subaru.

Overall Subaru rates in the top five for reliability. The "bullet proof" Hondas that people love to talk about rates #15 and #18 through 28 are all North American companies.
