Different flow rates and noises associated with the increase/decrease in flow rates. Typical OEM system where noise is paramount... the lower noise fan kicks on first and the higher flowing/noise-producing fan kicks on if the low noise fan cannot cool the radiator. There is also some logic thrown in there with regards to the a/c system and when each fan kicks on, but that is beyond my scope of understanding.

Thanks,
Eric

Ahhh. That totally makes sense. There is no free lunch with fan design. You get flow/static pressure or low noise but not both. Also explains why the stock system is so quiet.

Correct. There's rarely ever free lunch, compromises are a necessity of all designs.

The SPAL fans on our radiator are designed for flow, the curved blade I spec'd out does reduce air noise though. They are SUBSTANTIALLY louder than OEM though, pull more amps, and very likely outflow OEM.

Currently the fans only kick on if I'm stopped in traffic for multiple minutes though, which is exactly what the fans are there for.

Thanks,
Eric

It will still offer greater heat rejection than the OEM radiator.

However, the fans not being on a shroud does reduce cooling efficiency at low vehicle air speeds. The good news is that the engine doesn't have large cooling requirements at these low air speeds typically (engine idling doesn't put a lot of heat into the cooling system), so the fans do their job and keep the engine cool without a shroud.

Thanks,
Eric

We wrapped up another few radiators and wanted to share the photos. These really are works of art as well as extremely functional .

Thanks,
Eric

Part of the kit so that you don't have to cut any oem harness wires for the relay install.

Thanks,
Eric

Nice touch. Would this be better than running an oil cooler?

Oil cooling is different than engine cooling. You should run a rad and oil cooler together.

This is for the coolant/water side of engine cooling. Oil cooling is a completely different part of engine cooling.
