I have yet to see a turbo'd frs that was slower than an n/a frs car...
Also, I will never believe any dyno that shows an n/a frs hitting 220 lol. Again, can't really compare different dyno numbers and expect any accurate comparison. |

Also note that I stated it was on a dynapack. Same as this guy's Works Turbo Car so the numbers are reading high. I find it hard to believe that the margin of difference between these two dynapacks to be THAT drastic to say that the NA car run could be so much lower. Because for all we know the Works Turbo kit could be actually lower as well. Lastly, if you go back through my posts in this thread I never stated anything about the NA car being faster...I was comparing power outputs and associated cost comparisons. |

Here: http://www.wallaceracing.com/et-hp-mph.php I did 13.8 @ 101 (2900 lbs w/me) with the ESC at around 4.5 psi tapering to 1.5 psi. This calculator says I have 230whp. NA I ran 14.3 @ 96.5 This calculator says I have 200 whp. Seems like reasonable numbers to me.

Yeah, I would rip that kit out after seeing that dyno chart.

Tbh, I really don't understand all this hostility towards WORKS when they are the only ones who stepped up to provide a CARB legal turbo and have been nothing but helpful to their customers... |

The "hostility" is that I CANNOT justify spending 7K like the OP did and get "208.2 whp & 198.4 lbft tq"
Honestly 208whp? I been seeing threads where people are getting close to those numbers on an NA setup, yeah it's probably not CARB but it just doesn't make sense to me if CARB is a reason and you live in CA there's SC kits out there that are CARB and output MUCH better numbers. JRSC and Edelbrock for example, I just don't understand it from a price perspective. EDIT So I looked up how much the CARB Stage 2 kit is http://store.worksmotorsports.com/WO...p/142.212c.htm So 5K, and the OP paid 6800 with installation and all that. That's fair, but you can pay that same price for a CARB JRSC or Edelbrock and have better numbers. If the OP is happy then he's happy because now he's turbo'd and has torque now. I still just don't see it from a price perspective. Last edited by Alltezza; 03-09-2016 at 03:56 PM. Reason: Updated. |

this "208whp" thing is way blown out of proportion.
on that SAME dyno, what would another kit put down for whp? Thats the only way to compare. If the turbo's car put down 208, I guarantee that n/a cars are putting down low 120/130/140's probably. hp/tq #'s are way too important on this forum(probably because they're low haha...gotta make ourselves feel better) but GAINS before/after tuning/mods/turbos/superchargers etc are the only accurate way to see exactly that, GAINS. Buying this car and making it "fast" isn't smart from a money perspective. Plus, this is the ONLY carb legal turbo kit out...CARB cert. is where all the money is going lol |

Yes changing the blower would require re-certification. Compare Jackson Racing's two kits and the C38 has a different CARB EO# than the C30 (D-700-5 vs D-700-2).
Since Works is sitting a few hundred yards away from Sonoma Speedway I bet they tried a few different turbo sizings. With the centrifugal systems emphasizing power late in the rev range and the positive displacement blowers working best in the middle, it makes sense for Works to develop a small turbo system that delivers fat torque comparatively early in the powerband instead of trying to beat the already established superchargers by making a kit with pretty dyno numbers and sacrificing the driving experience by introducing a noticeable amount of turbo lag, it's an 86, not a 930 or a Supra. They'd end up with dynos that look nice for the benchracers and a bunch of reviews saying "but dat turbo lag". Surely someone determined to prove a point will show that the Works kit makes more torque at 3k-4k rpm than any other CARB kit and stays competitive until the Rotrex kits come on at >5k rpm. Hell their peak wheel torque is shown as being ~20 ft-lbs over the Edelbrock kit, and arriving ~1k rpm sooner. If you want that early wave of turbo torque in DD-able, reliable, and street legal trim looks like Works has your answer. |
