Why do you have to pay out of pocket? Maybe this is insurance company or state specific but I've had this happen multiple times over the years and as long as I filed a police report as proof that it wasn't me being the guilty party, my insurance company has paid 100% under uninsured motorist.

I meant my deductible, should have worded it better. If I find out who did it I won't have to pay my deductible but if not then I'd have to pay that out of my own pocket. It's not as much as the repair is but still sucks since I could've used that money for other things.

I understood that is what you meant, but I've never had to do that as long as a police report was filed which indicates I didn't do it. As I said may be differences in policies or local rules.

Went under my policy to check this since I didn't know about it and it seems as if I can't change it. Tried adding uninsured motorist and it tells me Collision and Uninsured Motorist cannot be carried at the same time, don't understand why but it seems as if I can't add it at all if I still have Collision coverage.

I have both of those on all my cars especially the ones with full coverage collision insurance. I live in a terrible part of town where the majority of folks don't have any insurance and drive junkers just in case they ram into you. they usually get out and run before the cops get to the scene, see it way too often in my part of town. I have AAA

I'll probably look around for other insurances after this as mine is about to expire soon in another month. The only reason I got this company is because it was about $500 cheaper each 6 months than other ones, in the end it paid itself. But thanks, i'll look around for sure since it's been a while.

EDIT: Anyways a little update, the cameras that were outside unfortunately didn't catch anything since my car was parked in the camera's only blind spot. I was hoping they caught at least the front or back end of my car to show the impact and movement but nope, no evidence of anything. I'm purchasing a dash cam now.

The details vary from state to state, but...

Most states require you to carry the basic liability coverage, where if you smash someone's car (and it's your fault), your coverage pays for their loss.

If someone else smashes your car (and it's his fault), then you would likewise make a claim against that person's liability insurance to cover your loss. But what if he doesn't have insurance? That's where uninsured motorist coverage comes in. You can often add that to your liability coverage, so that you're protected against some other person's actions. But uninsured motorist doesn't cover you if you smash your own car.

That's where comprehensive collision insurance comes in. That covers you whether it's your fault or someone else's fault, regardless of whether the other person has insurance. Most of the time when you finance a vehicle, the finance company will require you to carry comprehensive insurance. So what's probably happening is that you're trying to add uninsured motorist insurance, but that would be redundant because any situation that would be covered by uninsured motorist coverage is already covered by your comprehensive policy.

Just to be sure, you ought to call and talk with a live customer service rep to make sure you're getting what you need.

In NY you don't have a choice, uninsured is automatically part of every policy. That's part of why our insurance is so expensive.

Just yesterday I watched somebody parking by braille destroy the front bumper of a '12 Forester. He backed into it hard three times and after the third time the cover was hanging off to the point where the owner could not have driven away to go home without removing what was left. I took pictures while it was happening of the car hitting it, the plates on the car and the driver. When he saw me he got out and freaked, screaming at me and tried to take my phone. I turned around and walked into the store I work in and called the PD. I uploaded them to photobucket and emailed the link to the guy that owns the car after he got out of work. Hopefully he is able to use them as evidence of what happened.
