How does it feel swaped compared to the original engine configuration handling wise? Obviously the torque dip has been fixed lol

I made some very significant changes all at once with coilovers but with that in mind, its still very balanced.

Joel, care to elaborate on what changes you made to your suspension?

Sorry, I'm saying the coilovers (and alignment/camber) made the significant change to the car's handling. More than the engine swap. I'm just running coilovers, BBK, and slicks. The engine swap just made the car a bit more difficult to throttle out of corners, requires finesse.

Here is a more recent autocross run, struggling with some loose gravel, but was a fun run with a fellow BRZ owner riding shotgun, he provides his feedback after the run:

I'm dragging the rev limiter too much around autocross.
Bought a used 3.73 M85 rear diff. Hoping it keeps the engine a little happier, but if not I'll use it temporarily hold me while I swap my original to 3.55.

I've calculated the top speeds per gear for two T56 variants and have included it here, and in my first post for future reference.
All shift points at safe-ish 5500rpm (because thats the max I'm comfortable sustaining in a straight), though I'll push 6k to shift.

Where are you finding the rear gear options? I need to do some research on that for myself.

I just got my 2001-05 Lexus IS300 m85 3.73 LSD rear end off of a member here, currently two are on ebay ($700). They're a direct swap.

Nitro Gears makes 3.73 and 3.58 for the toyota rear end.
Would require a new New 29 spline Flange (ours is 60x60mm)
($350 for both, might need shims?)

Best prices I've found at JustDifferentials linked in the text just above. I dont have experience rebuilding rear ends so I went with the m85 to start with.

Got a quote earlier this year from Just to swap in a 3.53 in my diff that I shipped to them. $938 Seemed like a good price to me.

What are your local autoX courses like? Mine seem to be a bit less technical than others I’ve seen. Speeds over 70 MPH on the straighter sections is not uncommon from the faster cars.

If you’re shifting at 5500 RPM I think you might want the 3.55 rear. I went 3.73 but my engine was built to rev a bit higher. 2nd gear at 7K RPM should equal 78.5 MPH. I don’t think I’ll be going faster than 75 MPH which should be 6700 RPM so hopefully no need for 3rd gear. My rev limiter is all the way at 7400 RPM but I’ll shift before 7K RPM and power slowly starts to drop off after 6600 RPM

The three local groups I run with- the courses are pretty tight/technical. I'm hoping to expand out a bit more to some larger events to open the car up more. I'm planning on attending LS-fest this september, likely running the road course and autox https://www.lsfest.com/bowling-green/

I do shift around 6k or so, but I used 5500 as its what I'd consider my max sustained straight RPM.

I installed the M85 IS300 3.73 rear end last night. Went pretty smooth, took about 45 minutes. It was raining last night and this morning or else I'd be testing it out on the road, will report back once its rolling. If it is not enough, I may use this as a temporary stepping stone while I rebuild mine to 3.55.

Update: I've been driving this 3.73 on the road now for a bit, I like it a whole bunch better than the original 4.11.

However I dont think second gear is where I want it yet for autocrossing. I'm going to send my original rear to get built at 3.55, then sell this 3.73.

I'll buy the 3.73 if its the right deal. I'm using the fbody t56 so I think it'll work better for my setup.

That thing is nice! If I gut my cats and install lightweight pulleys, will my car run like that?
