Fair enough. But lets talk about other cars that are here that one would expect to have higher emissions than a 4cyl turbo: M BMW's, Focus ST, Mustang, Charger, S Audis, AMG Mercs etc. They go on and on about "earth dreams" and how clean their brand is but they cant make a Type R conform to Cali emissions but all those other cars I listed can?

I just feel like many other mfgs. are now bringing their flagship cars over here, M series, STI, EVO, GTR, (even in a muted state RS vs ST, S but not RS etc) but Honda has constantly left their R series cars in Japan and Europe and the reasons I've heard have never satisfied me.

Ok. I understand more now about why it's hard for us to have small fast cars. It's all about footprint size which determines mpg requirements. An M5 and a Civic have different requirements because of their size. Making a large car more powerful is easier than making a small car powerful. This is why cars have grown larger over time...easier to reach the mpg requirements if your car is larger.

/sigh

From the article:

Quote:
Mazda is another company that must also play against the stacked deck of CAFE. The Mazda6 wagon was offered here for a few years, and axed after it sold poorly. For 2014, Mazda is launching a third-generation Mazda6, including a gorgeous station wagon (and yes, a diesel engine), but it won't be coming here. Enthusiast blogs have been harping on Mazda's decision to withhold the car from the U.S. market, but a simple analysis using CAFE methodology reveals why. The wagon, with its footprint of 48 square feet, is subject to the same standards as the Volvo V70. On the other hand, the Mazda CX-5, with a footprint of 45.6 square feet, is smaller, and again, subject to light truck fuel economy standards. For a model that must be sold over 5-6 years (as previous generations were), the Mazda6 wagon starts out having to achieve a CAFE mpg figure in the high 30s.

Assuming the model lasts until 2020, the Mazda6 would have to achieve fuel economy figures in the high 40 mpg CAFE range. Engineering a low volume, niche market wagon for sale in America that would be subject to increasingly tough targets is arguably beyond their means, especially given the small volumes the car would sell in. Instead, Mazda offers the CX-5 crossover. Aside from being classified as a crossover, with all the CAFE advantages built in, the CX-5 is able to sell in economically viable volumes not just in the United States, but across the globe. The realities of CAFE have likely made sales of the third generation Mazda6 wagon impossible in the United States.

2015 Civic Type-R

Quote:
Honda has revealed more details on its upcoming Civic Type R; the "most extreme and high performing Type R in the 22 year history of the red ‘H' badge". It's so extreme and high performing, it's gone blue with rage.

Ahead of this week's Paris Motor Show then - and a wider UK launch sometime next year - Honda has again confirmed that the new Civic Type R will feature a 2.0-litre petrol engine producing more than 276bhp.

This, says Honda, makes the new Civic hot hatch more powerful than any previous Civic, Integra, Accord and even the NSX. Fast, then.

It'll be a Euro 6 compliant engine, which you don't really care about. But it will get a turbocharged engine for the first time, delivering low-down power, which you do really care about.

Don't worry though, Honda is still promising the high-end fireworks "much loved by fanatical Type R owners". You know who you are.

This will also be the first Type R in history to feature a ‘+R' button, too, located next to the steering wheel. Press it, and you loosen yet more of the Civic's straitjacket. The engine's responsiveness is "heightened", torque-mapping becomes more aggressive and the steering becomes more responsive. A fine fight on your hands, then.

Though Honda assures us that the Achilles heel of any powerful front-driver - torque steer - will be minimised thanks to the Civic's ‘steer axis'. A new mechanical system including two supporting ‘kingpins' has been fitted to the front suspension to make sure the Type R goes where you point it, rather than towards the nearest window for a little smooch.

There's active damping too, with four-stages, and of course, the obligatory six-speed manual gearbox. Helpfully, Honda has confirmed that this device "allows the driver to select their chosen gear". Um, thanks for the advice.

"The all-new Civic Type R has been developed and engineered for European drivers," says Honda. "The concept of the Type R is to be the complete driver's car."

It'll get a proper unveil later this week in Paris, with prices announced closer to its on sale date in 2015

I've always loved the hot hatches

this one reminds me of the Citreon DS3 Racing

Looks nice but I still wouldn't trade my brz for one. It be nice to get that wing with a brake light made for the twins though. Kinda funky.

Good read, thanks for posting.

Too bad we won't get it over here most likely. I'd actually consider buying one if we did.

It would be nice if it actually came out looking like that. I'll be interested to see how well their proprietary front magical buzzwords actually correct torque steer.

That's because it isn't rated for a snowplow attachment.

It's just my opinion but Hondas just keep getting uglier. It's been all downhill after the RSX-S and the S2000.
