Jeremy has sent me the updated drain fitting he wants to use and I continue to drive on my catch can day after day. Still working well and we are still planning on going forward with the build. We are still updating mounting as well.

Taking longer than expected but it should be a nice product when it is released .

Alright, here it is modeled on the can. Definitely able to work with this.

We are also considering making a maintenance free version that will drain the filtered oil back into the engine. What are your guys thoughts on a version like that?

Not a good idea, usually the oil vapours are full of condensation.

There are other kits on the market that do this for other vehicles ( STI ) from Perrin, Grimmspeed and more. Typically your oil is hot enough to boil any water out of it by the time it gets back into the motor. Naturally condensation forms inside the block and pan in the right conditions anyway you just never see it.

What he said... thanks Jeremy .

The kit would be available either way, so the end user could decide which kit he wants in the end. It's just a thought we had last night...

My catch cans have always looked like a milkshake. Condensation forms in the catch can, hot vapour in a cold/cool can...

I agree moisture gets "boiled" out of the engine oil under operation.

Take a little water in oil, and then shake it (aerate it). It forms that milkshake you have seen before. Again, we are playing with the idea, and regardless it would be modular, so you could add the "service free" kit or just leave it as a you have to drain it kit.

Yes, actually quite a few. We ended up with an entire redesign, which puts both systems into one unit. Each system is internally baffled and divided from the other half until the drain portion. It utilizes 4 coalescent filters, which are specifically designed to filter out liquid water and oil from air, on the inlet and outlet of each system. The cap and base are sealed with an o-ring, as are the fittings that thread into the cap. The end user can either chose to add a service free kit that will drain the oil directly back into the engine, or utilize a Fumoto drain valve threaded into the bottom of the can.

Here are a few CAD photos:

And here are some photos of the uncoated components. The final pieces will be anodized in a few popular colors and laser engraved.

Fittings:

Base with O-ring:

Cap with filters installed:

Cam/Head Block off plate with -6 O-ring port. It is currently plugged (as shown) but will be able to adapt to a -6AN JIC flare for a line that will go from the air oil separator to this for service free operation.

I will attempt to get installed photos tonight, we are 2-3 months away from production but everything is looking good to move forward with the design.

Thanks,
Eric

The amount of air that will mix between the two systems will be minimal. The two baffles butt up against one another without any gap and a fine surface finish. This will not affect performance of the air oil separator. However, if it is a concern, a small sliver of your favorite sealant would ail any leakage.

Here are a few photos of where it will be installed. The logos are not engraved into the cans yet and that will happen within the next week or two. Red and black are currently what we will offer but other options are possible, as are mixing fitting colors with body colors. The end decision will be up to FT86 Speed Factory but we will do our best to accompany what people want most.

If you are wondering why the red one is missing the 3/8" nipple, it's because the anodizing company lost them by accident. Unfortunate accidents happen.

Below is a picture of our version 1 can still holding up well and collecting oil on my car. This is after another 1500 miles of typical driving. The short hose leading from the top fitting to my intake manifold is absolutely spotless, signifying the filter is doing its job well .
