Spark knock/pre ignition noise. 18k miles

I'm in NC so it's getting hot here. I've noticed the past couple weeks I'm getting what sounds like spark knock when going into 4th, 5th and 6th gear. I can snap the throttle in these gears and get the sound.

Do these cars run lean from the factory? I'm thinking a simple tune could alleviate the issue.

Anyone else come across this?

Are you getting this when doing quick shifts and quick jabs? I have a 2013 and it did this really bad until I updated my Transient Ignition Retard tables to match the 2017+ tables. The throttle response isn't as good on the 2017 tables though. I switched to E85 and rolled back to the 2013 TIR tables and no longer have the knock and also got my throttle response back.

I see you have a 2018 so I wouldn't expect this to happen to you. Maybe your haven't a different issue.

What gas are you running? I wouldn't be surprised if it's on 91, if you can get 93/94 give a tank a try to see if it stops it.

I almost always get knock at around 2600-3200 if it is under load. This is a pretty high compression engine. I've pulled so much timing at one point to get rid of it I gave up. I run the car hard at the track all day and IAM never moves from 1 so

Yes I get this noise during quick shifts and jabs in these gears. Sounds like the same issue you were having. Also running 93.

Well running the 2017 TIR almost completely fixed it for me but still on a quick shift I would hear it randomly. E85 has completely solved it. I literally never see signs of detonation in my logs anymore.

May go the e85 route then. I hate hearing it.

My car does this as well on an older OFT stage 2 tune (1.8X IIRC). Is this ultimately harmful to the car or can I just chalk this up to being another noise it makes. Thoughts on whether or not I should upgrade to a newer tune?

Sure it causes some stress wear since those cylinders are firing off at slightly the wrong time.
