Install went well and looks as stealth and OEM as you’d expect from Harrop. Took a week which was longer than the quoted 3 days including drop off and pick up, but I was away so no issue and I didn’t want the job rushed.
On e85 with the FlexFuel kit the car is frightening to drive especially since I fitted the treacherous Prius 17” OEM wheels before dropping it off so had them on when I picked it up. Luckily the roads were dry. With my 245/4018’s back on the car the acceleration is the first thing I noticed and the incredibly short time it takes to hit the rev limiter compared to when it was NA. Something I never did, and I can see why they say lowering the final drive ratio is a good move for FI 86’s. First is just to short if flooring it. What I like is that you can drive it just as if it was NA and it’s fine, but floor it and hold on. I have Michelin P4’s fitted and it breaks traction at 6k rpm in second.. I also have a set of TE37’s fitted with RE003’s in the garage. I’ll have to change them over and see how the Bridgestone go. Third and fourth gear are phenomenal but with fourth being the danger gear in the shitty gearboxes they fitted to these cars, I’ve never really hammered it in that gear. Thirds prob the most useful gear in the car now. The torque in fifth and sixth is very useable and pickup is very noticeable over a NA car. I’m careful not to use too much of the available torque and associated strain in these two gears. Only things I don’t like are the start up on e85. I’m currently running at e77 in the tank so it’s nearly 100% e85 and it coughs and farts for the first 10 seconds before it settles to a smooth but not silky smooth idle. That I can deal with but it also had a issue with the over run and the idle taking too long to drop coming up to lights. Also bogged down when starting off from lights and from stationary requiring a clearing hit of the accelerator. Once passed about 5% throttle it‘s brilliant. I rang and took it back last week and Harrop tweaked the tune to the point where it’s a lot better but nowhere near as easy to drive as it was pre install. The tuner admitted he’d got some settings wrong relating to the idle mix. All the AFR’s, oil temps and water temps are the same. We’ve had some 42c days here or 110f deg days here and I avoided using the car, but that would have been the same if it was NA. Who wants to be in one of these cars in the heat? Not as though they’re well insulated in the roof. There seems to be no issue with outside temps in the mid 30c or 90’s for you users of Fahrenheit. Car sits at the water temp or always does. Having said that the Innovate oil temp gauge did rise to the first amber bar from the usual last green bar. Still nowhere near being hot. The performance is intoxicating and where pre install I had plenty of time to take in how fast the car was going, with the extra performance of the SC it’s almost impossible to look down at the speedo before it’s at the redline. At least in first and second. I’m happy I did it but it still needs some tweaking to the drivability before I’ll be completely satisfied. Last edited by Bodalenko; 02-10-2020 at 08:58 PM. |

It would likely take some street tuning, dyno tuning and some parking lot tuning to dial the car in enough, and even then, it’ll never compare to a factory tune for smoothness in all conditions. Probably a couple grand or more than a basic tune.
This time of year, I run less E85, and in the summer I run more, but even then, being too cold on startups isn’t ideal. The car always feels much better after a half hour or more when the engine is fully warm and the transmission is fully warm. It is bad to judge this car in the first fifteen minutes, I have found.

This time of year here is summer and I’m running @ e78 by the gauge. Car and drive train has been warmed up when I’ve done any spirited driving.
I’m getting a copy of the tune and have bought the necessary Ecutek bits to edit the tune and reflash a new one. I won’t be doing it but I’ll be getting someone who knows a lot about tuning and Ecutek to give the tune a once over.. |

What weight oil are Harrop owners running? I was running Liqui Moly 10W-40 pre install but is this the right weight post install?

Some here believe that 0w20 is what our car is spec'd with so that is what we should run, and that thicker oil is a crutch to deal with inadequate cooling management, suggesting that an oil cooler and other heat management mods are preferential. They may also suggest that 0w20 oil is not just thin oil that is suggested for better fuel economy, but it is also oil that moves faster through the galleys, so it picks up heat faster. As such is the case, the relationships between oil viscosity and oil speed are inversely related, so it can be a trade off. In general, 10w40 shouldn't be a problem. Just make sure to get the car up to operating temperature before beating on it. For peace of mind, consider the following: the official oil of the TMG GT86 Cup is 10w60, and that is on top of the fact that the cup has an optional oil cooler. https://www.racingbytmg.com/wp-conte...anual_EN-1.pdf

Just curious, so you add 0.75-1 quart of extra oil, but how do you change the oil in the cooler? Is that one thermostatically regulated?

Could a person drain that oil; is there a plug? I’m too OCD to leave a quart of oil in the system. I don’t like the idea of a second area for sediment, sludge or concentrate to accumulate that I couldn’t drain, especially leaving an extra quart of oil in there.

You could pull the core each time and drain manually but not worth it. I’ve had no problems for 30k miles and probably 30-40 track days Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
