Anyone tried MotylGear 75W-80 https://www.motul.com/system/product...pdf?1328624012
Vis@40°C 58.8
Vis@100°C 10.1
VI 160

or Redline MT-85 http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=140
Vis@40°C 64.3
Vis@100°C 12
VI 172

The long term effects of running something as thin as Pentosin/ATF has to be detrimental to the integrity of the gearbox when the factory spec is 75W-90 surely.

MTL was slightly better than stock. I don't recommend it... and unless you track, I wouldn't recommend Motul either since it's thicker than MTL. Pentosin was best for me.

Saying Pentosin is too thin... well it's stock for my previous car Z4M and most BMWs. Too thick is no good either unless you heat up the gears such as track applications...so mean time the gears aren't lubricated well and have hard time shifting. For most folks...I say go with Pentosin.

I have been using the Pentosin MTL for 1000 miles and it is night and day better than stock fluid--all gear changes smooth and consistent.

Update: I changed transmission fluid to Pentosin MTF2. The gear changes are much better when cold. It's not exactly smooth when fully warmed up, but I probably need to give it some time. It's ok so far.

The thin fluids don't shear. There is no risk-just more efficient shifting.

Update: I've been running Pentosin MTF2 in my transmission for the past 10K Km. Initially it wasn't that smooth and didn't like it too much, but once the transmission and fluid got some kilometers on them, things just smoothed out. Now it's very smooth when warmed up, and very driveable when cold. I recommend...

I had problems with it when it was +10*C. At -10*C you probably can't use 2nd gear until the transmission warms up.

It was about +10 and when the transmission was cold it was almost undrivable.

I switched to a 50-50 mix of redline mt-90 and mt-85. It worked well. The car is in storage now so I didn't test it in sub zero temps. I wouldn't mind trying straight mt-85, but it'll be a while before I'm changing the fluid again.

Wow... that's unacceptable! And I have 4 quarts of Motul 300 sitting here right now...

Throw them on the forsale board, see if someone in Seattle or something will buy them.

It's funny, I've heard nothing but good about Motul, but this one experience hasn't been very positive. More than likely though, that's not the fault of Motul. They just make an oil that fits the spec Toyota & Subaru stamped on the transmission. Gem was likely correct to go to a lower viscosity fluid. Due to local availability though, I'm probably going to stick with redline. I've had very good experiences with their stuff in the past.

@Ferrari Have you been out in -20ish weather yet? Curious. I'm guessing there are not as many twin owners as you go to colder places.
It's was averaging -25 a few weeks ago for me and I wouldn't mind having a working 1st and 2nd gear.
