I took some measurements and the space is larger than 2.5" but smaller than 3"

You will have to notch it like mine is. Not a big deal, its thing metal.

So I have to bug you here, but from what I understand, you are using the grimspeed MBC? Easy to install/work with?

Latest update on my car.......failed welds on manifold.....

So noticed a significant amount of noise from below the car taht sounded like an exhaust leak. Lifted the car, and did an oil change and decided to pinpoint the exhaust leak as well. Like many others experienced, leaking at the mainfold-head flanges....well, i had the upgraded forester gaskets but those did not seem to hold, as there were clear visual build up/leaks, and also a very audible leak. Upon further inspection i saw that the header itself had broke a weld. So unfortunately, had to pull this all apart to get that part off.

Paul has been real good about getting this taken care of and is sending me a new header.

Just sucks i had to remove most of the turbo, lines etc....not to mention the costs of getting new gaskets. Went with the @GrimmSpeed brz/frs kit, so will be putting all new gaskets in throughout. Hope the new header isnice and smooth/even, toherwise will be taking to get it resurfaced first, before installing.

Well as long as they take care of you, I know it's a PITA to have to deal with a critical piece of the equation going bad, a lot of wasted time and effort.

I'm not a big fan of wrapping Subaru headers, issue being they sit underneath the engine. They are a good spot for oil to drip/spill on and once the header wrap is soaked it just goes up in flames. I have good first hand knowledge of this.

Just got my replacement header....

How flat would you consider the header flanges to be, to stay within spec....?

And to be clear, on the leaking one i had the forrester gaskets which seem to be about 1.25mm

I have now got the new @GrimmSpeed gaskets, and they are about 1.6mm thick, so hope that helps. I also grabbed some permatex ultra copper for extra insurance.

I would get it re-faced by a local machine shop. Won't take long and it will be worth the peace of mind imo.

Didn't take very long to get the new header! And was it warrantied? I thought AVO's warranty was only 3 months...

Yeah, i think their warranty is only 3 months, but i had a failed weld on my manifold, so think Paul was just trying to do the customer service thing and take care of me, really appreciate it paul @AVOturboworld.

Glad to hear AVO took care of you. The header issues that people have been having makes me hesitant. Even if it's a PITA, it's great to hear that the vendor is helping you out!
