It's got a stock front pipe. From my experience, even the catted ones can make it worse? Is that not always the case?

Depending on the severity of the drone a resonator may not solve it. We had a car with bad drone and tried four different resonators and it would move the drone around on the rev range some (up or down a few hundred RPMs) or change the tone some, but it would still be there. That car we changed to a coated carbon steel exhaust, and it was whisper quiet in the car, but still balls out on the outside. Carbon Steel and Stainless have extremely different resonance properties.

A few other cars have had moderate drone and we used a Helmholtz tube on them. It completely cancelled the drone.

I personally didn't want to bother with the experiment but it's certainly cheaper than buying another catback.
CSG touring is the only CB I will buy new going forward. Made for catless setups.

Generally the stock FP is going to be the most tame. I've got a 2.5" Catted and bottle resonated unit now that drones worse than OEM with CBs I tried. Lachute makes a ultra quiet resonated version I wish I knew about. I probably would have purchased that instead.

I may try this one before I change the CB. I was planning to change out the front pipe anyway at some point, so perhaps this will influence some of the rasp/volume I'm getting on the TRD?

Could be chasing good money with bad though.

** EDIT ** I exchanged email with Lachute and they won't sell one to the US because we are nutty over cats. Maybe I can find a Canadian friend to buy one and send it to me.

TRD exhaust owner here...

I replaced the original resonator with a Vibrant Ultra Quiet unit and it got rid of 95% of the drone, so I'd highly recommend doing this for drone reduction (resonators don't have much effect on volume). Interestingly, the resonator on the Lachute front pipe looks identical to a Vibrant Ultra Quiet resonator...

Based on what I've read over the years, I don't recall any aftermarket front pipe that helps reduce volume over the OEM front pipe since they typically have larger piping and higher-flow cat. The closest exception I've seen is the Fujitsubo dual-resonated (but catless) front pipe, which was extensively tested to be identical to the OEM front pipe in dB readings.

If you want to cut down volume, it's either different cat-back or maybe replace the TRD muffler with a larger one and cut/weld the TRD tips onto it. Perhaps this Vibrant muffler could help:

From what I've seen on here they can, but some of the double resonated front pipes may actually help.

Listen to what others have said. CSG Touring only way to go at a reasonable price. If you still have stock Mid Pipe, this exhaust will also work(use to run it when my car was street driven. For FP's go with JDL OP/FP Combo with Dual Resonators

Fujitsubo Authorize S Axle Back Exhaust

Nameless catted and resonated FP also works well.
