Hey! Old guys can get in and out fine. In fact historical on here it is the young guys that complain more.

Re: auto's vs. manual ...
I cannot possibly fathom owning a "driver's car" like the BRZ/FRS or WRX that begs for constant interaction between man and machine in an automatic. It's like neutering one of the most important aspects of what makes driving the car so enjoyable. You wouldn't cut your best friend's balls off, would you?

C'mon man. That's such a lame answer that gets rehashed again and again.

He's asking us because he wants to learn the knowledge that others in the same general field know. He'll use the info extracted from all the "possible sort of answer(s)" that this forum gives him and he'll be all the better for it.

eh. pressing the clutch with my left foot to change gears isn't that important to me any more. it was, when i first started driving. it's just one part of driving that i don't miss now.
i don't see it as neutering at all; just like i wouldn't call a great-tasting chicken dinner 'neutered' if i didn't raise and kill the chicken myself.

I guess if you consider your friend's balls his most fun aspect lol

But I agree, you should buy a v6 Camry. Because that's basically comparable to the cvt wrx. If I had to go auto in a sports car() I'd go ahead and get the softer wrx, because you're taking a main component of a driver's car away anyway, and the wrx will be more practical in your case.

Agreed. Been shifting gears since the beginning... cars, trucks and motorcycles. Now my BRZ automatic is letting me a little bit more relaxed, especially when stuck in rush hour traffic!

I think you answered your question. It's his money and he wants you to get a RAV4 plus he's hard to negotiate with. If you get something else he's going to bug you about the decision all the time even if you're "paying off the finance".

So who's name is this going to be under and who's going to be driving it everyday?

Why aren't you just having him co-sign on a loan for you if it's going to be yours?

The RAV4 doesn't get better gas mileage. EPA may rate them a bit better, but in the real world they're lower (check out fuelly.com)

Now that the softroad SUV is out of the way, you're left with a 4 door AWD car with lots of power but a crap CVT transmission or a 2 door RWD nibble car with a slightly better auto. Frankly I'd drive both to see (I never drove the WRX because looks wise it doesn't have anything on the twins IMHO).

Does it matter? You'll be done before you get your pants off.
