No it would be a Clydesdale...hmmm maybe Ford could use the name assuming no one still owns the trademark..

They were first station wagons. Sure, a lot went 4wd, some like international, jeep, and Chevy did it early, but still just a station wagon.

Then the next generation came and didn't want the old station wagon, so we renamed them.

Just the old station wagon.

Boring.

Seems like a total cock-up in terms of marketing.

Mustang = old-school gas-guzzling V-8

Electric car buyers = want to feel "holier than thou" compared to petrol-burning drivers

Calling this new thing a "Mustang" doesn't seems like it wouldn't appeal to either.

admittedly it looks alright, at least in comparison to other CUV/SUVish EVs....and even though everyone has already mentioned this, I feel like I need to also poke fun of the name. The Mach-E name was fine on its own but adding Mustang is so desperate to me when it has absolutely no ties to a 2 door sports/muscle car lol... Guess Ford thinks it won't be that big of a hit so they need every desperate marketing ploy possible and a well timed "leak" to generate hype..smh..

I just want to know this...

If this is a "Mustang", does that mean the fleet average for all "Mustangs" now include this EV EPA rating as well as the ICE "Mustangs"?

If so, that sounds like a winner in the game of emissions.

In general, EVs will save ICEs. They will lower emission averages and raise fuel economy averages across fleets while reducing the demand/cost of fuel. This allows manufacturers to meet their mandates.

Man this guy got it. Don’t really like posting videos like this on here, but I think he summed it up perfectly in this video.

That part reminds me of the new-ish Porsche Taycan. The "slow" one is called "Taycan Turbo" and the faster one is called "Taycan Turbo S". Porsche says it has nothing to do with a model having a turbo or not but is a model classifier. That is, if the model has Turbo in its name then it is fast and calling a model Turbo S means it's even faster regardless that the Taycan is an all electric vehicle.

Good ol' marketing department.

Right, but I think there is a mandate that each "model" must also meet standards with exceptions only allowed for very specific reasons.

I will look this up later to provide more facts.

However, if it is the case that the exception cannot be used (or not desired to be used) for the "Mustang" any longer, then just throw in something that will get 150 eMPG into the same model and bam -- you have satisfied the `rules`.

I think there is more to the naming than just word-of-mouth hype.

Of course, it's not like Ford hasn't done something similar in the past. The Thunderbird is a good example. What started off as a nice two-door sports car/roadster eventually became a 4 door behemoth. They scaled it up basically to protect the Mustang so maybe what goes around comes around.

At least the 4-door Thunderbird had suicide doors, so there was some redeeming coolness in that.
