I have driven many noisier cars and many quieter cars. My "06 F150 STX is quieter and my '73 Mercury Capri was noisier. My wife's '12 Camry SE V6 is marginally quieter. My particular yardstick for interior noise is conversation. Can I maintain a normal conversation in a normal tone of voice at 75-80 mph? In the BRZ that proved a bit difficult. So tried a number of potential solutions ranging from aviation intercom systems to sound insulation. The insulation seems to fit the bill.

Cars like this are canvases. Many of us use them as a foundation for something we think is greater. My motorcycling career ended in the side of a Tahoe. When I bought the BRZ, I sold my wife on the idea by telling her it would be like a Honda Goldwing with doors and A/C. A decent road tripper with sporting pretensions. A budget GT car. And, so it is. For me, the noise isn't really a significant inconvenience. I would, however, like to carry on normal conversation and I find that over the course of 9 or so hours the noise is a bit fatiguing. It is, however, something I can mitigate. So I have. For my purposes, the car is better as as a result.

Be sure to use anti-seize on them. Aluminum valve caps can and will seize onto the valvestem, making it impossible to add air to the tire

So, hankering to break the self-imposed house arrest just a little, thanks to vaccinations we decided to take a little trip. Yesterday we drove the BRZ. 7 hours, for a little getaway on the Canadian border (since the Canucks won't let us in).

The first hour was exhilarating. Even just on the highway, it reminded me all over again why I bought and love this car. The second hour was almost as much pure fun.

After the third hour, it started to get a little... tiring. After 7 hours, the noise and jittery ride were a little... much (at least for this 60-something aging body).

I guess sometimes, there can be too much of a good thing. I think future drives will be limited to no more than 3 hours a day. The car is an absolute blast to drive. But it's not the best choice as a highway cruiser for long days.

How about anyone else? What's the longest ride you've taken your car on? And what's the longest ride for which it was honestly enjoyable?

I will add the disclaimer though that for many years I drove very loud military vehicles, straight piped big block V8s, old (50s) cars with all steel interiors or rotted out shit boxes with soup can holding the exhaust together or worn out and outright broken suspensions so the FRS and 86 are like whisper quite, riding on a cloud luxury machines in comparison.
Anybody that thinks these things are noisy or bouncy inside never spent to in a jacked up 67 Dart!
Started a new job, going into my 3rd week, I will be getting a company car. As I haven't chosen my car yet, so have been given a rental that I have been driving to/from the office and visiting other site offices etc.. the rental is a new Ford Focus, sounds like a 3pot.. but not sure what it is, however, it's so anesthestised from the process of driving, no weight in the pedals, brakes are over sensitive, gearbox has no feel and no feedback through the steering. Yesterday jumped into my BRZeeee, wow!! What a difference! More connected to the road, rock solid stance, nice acceleration (sensitive too) and a very, very mechanical clutch/gearbox interface.

Installed intake manifold spacers/power blocks, not a bad mod for the price, changed the powerband a bit lower so i felt the low end once it was put in.
Got it off amazon for $60 and the crawford performance re install kit for $20 from their website directly.

Saw my car get towed away to the body shop

Was in a wreck last year and the body shop never installed a brace that connects the front lower control arm frame stud to another point on the car. Never noticed as I don't generally look in that area. Rode like that for a year before the clunking. Stud is now free from the frame and the hole had gotten just big enough to cause some rattling. Body shop should be liable, I guess I'll see how it actually turns out.

Just dropped off the Berz at the shop for the week to have the Edelbrock supercharger installed and tuned. Nervous and excited!

Installed AC delete and FF kit. Threw the ARC8's with my RT660's on the car so I can get my SX2's mounted to my 57DR's. Need to change the mounting of the display to make it more solid so this is just temporary. I do need to rewire it to be evap reference instead of rear o2 reference.
