I'd advise staying away from CSP, or Street Prepared in general. They run on DOT Slicks (Hoosiers) and is just massive scope creep from what you have currently.

just dont tell them about it. if you arent competitive who cars. plus racing is about cheating and not getting caught. literally no one will catch you if you dont open your mouth

Eh, depends on the competitors and how serious they are, no reason to 'play dirty' and make enemies when you're starting out, even if someone that sensitive is probably not the coolest person to make friends with. Get a feel for the local group before doing this and bending the rules. Ethanol isn't exactly hard to notice.

That being said I agree, e85+tune won't mean shit without proper tires, hell it'll struggle to be on pace with DS so I'd personally have no problem with his car in my STX class as it sits. Once it gets suspension, wheels and tires then I'd be annoyed by e85, it can be a significant power advantage in these cars.

Agreed with @M0nk3y retune for 93 octane and start building for STX, learn on street tires, so much cheaper, and it sounds like you'll have good benchmarks nearby to measure your progress. If you're really hungering for the power and more speed the limited prep street prepared rules that just came out sound like a perfect fit, all the mods for STX would carry over into LPSP and you can hop back on the corn juice.

It's the same reaction as its been for other "cheat mods"

your local chapter might look it over. if you dont tell anyone you are on E85 then it wont really be thought of.

but if you go to nationals and someone finds out, it is illegal to run stx

and as mentioned above the performance gains from E85 does not outweigh the driver skill to take first. good tires, proper shocks and a good LSD will take victory anyday. even on the stock 91 oct tune.

Wow. Thanks, for all the answers!
So best bet I think is to just switch back to 93.
So besides tires, what are the best mods to do that would keep me in stx?

Do coilovers automatically out you in prepared?

You would save yourself alot of questioning if you download the Pro solo rulebook.

coilovers would keep you in STX, you would want to wait for the Xida coilovers coming shortly. but the MCS system is bitching in its own right

I have a set of AST 5100's for the car already tuned with 6k/6K swift springs and a front helper spring.

on the lower pricing spectrum I know the tarmac 2's are good from racecomp engineering.

and if you are bare bones bottom of the barrel
swift springs on a koni yellow is what I ran before upgrading. skip the cheap coilovers.

That is literally the polar opposite attitude of what anybody in autocross should have. FOH with that

I did download it and was reading through it last night, sorry if my questions seem ultra newbie, there is just quite a lot of rules and some of it wasn't super clear to me.

I can smell it on my car at idle, so to think nobody will catch it is a very risky assumption.

Check out the very first post in this thread, old but still accurate, ST rules haven't had big changes this decade.

https://www.ft86club.com/forums/show...25&postcount=1

imho: alignment, coilovers, wheels+tire, properly setup this will get you over 75% of what the car needs to be fast. The next 10-15% is a header and tune, talented driving can put that package at the top of the pack.

Clutch Dog has a great shortlist of coilovers, add in ProParts STX Megans on the budget end. Grab a set of 17x9's with 245/40/17 RE71R's (BFG and Yok are competitive, but I say save a few bucks on your first set of competitive tires), rear lower control arm, hit the alignment rack and rip.

Agreed, very easy to smell ethanol when I'm working course, never paid attention in grid though.

Probably should direct that at someone else, I'm happy with my Megans, they're good enough to win STX without being an alien imho.

+1
While I understand the "but it doesn't really matter" idea, I've come to appreciate the satisfaction of playing within the rule set even when the mod isn't a substantive one. Heck, I even put rear seat belt buckles back into my autocross car so it's compliant.

It does get confusing at times, things are worded in ways that make me shake my head, but there's always something behind it on wording choices.

I shouldnt harp on you for not reading it. this is the safe place to ask the questions

(pst: buy my coilovers)
