Cold cold(under 30dg) start sounds super weird

So basically when I start my car and it’s super cold, like freezing, it starts and sounds like a diesel / has an exhaust leak almost / maybe about to send a piston thru the block and say hi. But when it warms up it’s totally fine and doesn’t sound any different from a good healthy motor. Anyone got insight on this? Thanks

What weight oil are you using? Honestly it sounds normal to me. I've started/ran my car as low as -20f. Just give it a little time to get heat into the oil before flogging on it

0w-20. I don’t even pass 3k RPMs until it’s warm

Sounds like a boxer engine running at below freezing temperatures to me as well. The injectors get noisy as hell around freezing.
My sounded like that every start for every winter for 6 years and I expect the same sound from the 86.
Don't panic all is good.

Awesome thank you. Because both my friends who had their 86s while I had mine, have both blown their motors, one did the recall and one didn’t. And I’ve gone and money shifted it like 500rpm over redline about twice so I was wondering if it was catching up. Honestly sounds very scary haha. Thank you

Haha well once it was me and once my friend. It’s because going straight down from the middle lands you on the gate of 2nd and 4th, so sometimes a downshift from 5th will land you in 2nd instead of 4th.
