Trunk Release Button (not valet)

Anyone had problems opening their trunk, but only with the button on the trunk itself? My key works, my interior button by the steering wheel works, but the button on the trunklid underneath the Scion logo doesn't work if i try that. Everything else works, locks etc. Not sure if this piece is replaceable or whatnot, i don't see any bolts to undo it.

My 2013 (not a series 10) doesn't have a trunk button under the scion emblem.

I can't help you.

In winter climates we often see trunk release buttons die from salt water infiltration, but that's probably not your situation.

Given the age of the car you could be facing a cut wire in the hinge, give this a try: open the trunk and use a screwdriver to close the latch, then hold the trunk release button on the trunk lid while moving it from open to closed and back again. Sometimes you'll get a reaction as the cut wire ends tickle each other when the hinge moves.

Really? Thought it’s standard.

@Decep - check the button inside the trunk that locks the trunk from being opened using the button on the trunk itself. it will be inside the trunk on the left side

It is in BRZs that are built with the same sort of options as a special edition Scion, like yours. Your car is basically a BRZ with a Scion nose and badges. A base model FR-S comes with no button on the trunk lid, has a turnkey ignition, more basic interior, less fancy headlights, etc.

To your issue: If every other form of trunk release is working for you, to include the key lock to the right of your button (get down low and look at your trunk release button, look to the right, should be a key lock; insert the key that's inside your fob, rotate to the right), then there's something wrong with the wiring to the button or within the button itself. If nothing you did would open the trunk except using the key then it would be the little idiot button on the left side of the trunk interior that disables all the remote trunk releases (including the button on the trunk lid), but you're saying they key fob button and the dashboard button both work, so it's not the idiot button.

As was suggested to you, you can try pressing the button while moving the trunk lid to see if maybe a wire is making intermittent contact. If not, you can look into replacing the switch if it isn't an expensive or difficult job, but throwing parts at the problem should be the last resort because there is no guarantee of it solving your issue.

See if there is a fuse dedicated to that trunk release button and check it. Could save you a lot of time and energy if it just ends up being a blown fuse. If it is, replace it and see if you get the function back. If it stops working again, the fuse is burning out for a reason, most likely an electrical short because of worn out insulation on a wire that's touching the car body. That wire would need repair or replacement.

If it's not the fuse, see if you're able to locate and inspect the wiring going to the button, and see if there is any damage to the insulation, any bad kinks or bends (insulation may look fine but the wire could be broken inside), or, if you can see the connections to the switch itself, if any connection came loose or a wire broke.

I’ll fiddle with the latch and see. The interior button works and the keyfob works so it’s definitely not the valet lockout.

Well pushing the latch in all the way with a tool while pressing the trunk release button got it working again. I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks all.
