A new 86 with all different components would still be an 86. This is NOT an 86: https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=142192

But if Subaru kept everything pretty much equal, (except for bore) and developed 100+hp/liter from the 2.0, they should get very close to that from the 2.4, which implies it should produce around 230-240 hp. And for all I know, which is not much, perhaps the naturally aspirated 2.4 will and Subaru and Toyota have underrated the engine, much like other car manufacturers do today. The bottom line will be how it drives on the road and for that we must all be patient. To add, I'd much rather have a responsive 230 hp naturally aspirated 2.4 liter engine than a 260hp "laggy" 2.4T, especially when mated to a manual transmission. I think the spy photos in this article, linked off of one @Baldeagle mentions, gives you a better look at the car, even in the swirly camo.
Definitely looks like a member of the family, but the front wheel arcs are too muted and the hips seem to have had some liposuction done to them.

The more people repeat something, the more plausible it seems, based only on the fact that more than one account from unrelated sources has claimed it. Imagine if someone said "ok, guess what card I've drawn from the top of the deck" but gave you 1 year, with as many guesses as you wanted- you'd probably GUESS right at some point. It's then easy to say "yup I knew it" right? Until Subaru or Toyota publish a number, it doesn't exist in reality, only in suspicion and plausibility. It's very likely that the car will have between 205hp and 240hp. That doesn't mean what I say is any more credible than anything else- the BRZ could come with a 3L flat 6 with 295hp and the 86 could have a 3L i6 with a turbo and 279hp. It is fun to theorize and have hopes- but don't mistake guesses for facts maybe it'll have a diesel engine, with 180hp and 350tq |

It is leaked official information. Leaked right out of somebody’s ass that is. We still have no clue if they will use the 2.4 much less what HP it will have.
