Precisely, this whole incident is my distraction from things I need to be focusing on (work lol). I'm renting a Hyundai Accent right now (lol). This car was my pride and joy. But hey, it's replaceable. Talked to the body shop lady and she still isn't sure if it's totaled but wouldn't be surprised if it is. I asked her for a ballpark repair cost estimate and she said 11-16K, but this is a high end shop that also works on exotics. Been on their butt and insurance's about getting things moving.

She's totaled boys. Though the valuation was closer to the cost of repairs than many thought. Lol at the guy that said it'd cost $4K to fix. They're actually paying out more than I paid for the car. Sadly, this will be my last 86

Just curious. Why the last? Don't like the car?

This is my second 86. Had an FR-S before trading it in for the BRZ (wanted to upgrade and found a good deal).

And well, I'm 24 and I'm being put at fault for the accident (questionable), so my insurance is about to jump while it was already high before (never had an accident or even speeding ticket before though). While I can afford to finance another one, I like the idea of buying a cheaper car outright and not having a car payment. I'm looking at a 1st gen TSX. Can be fun cars and would be cheaper on insurance. Reliable, etc.

I have goals to save up for some other stuff in life, so it all makes sense. Another 86 is just not that practical for me in the long-term, though I think it's one of the more practical sports cars on the market rn.

I loved it and had more plans for it. It was a really good car. 1-owner before me who was a doctor that had it maintained at the dealership, no prior accidents, and the guy traded it in for an Accord.

I'm sad about it, but some good is coming out of the loss. There's balance in all things. I definitely learned a lot and it was a big reality check with it being the first accident I've been in where I was driving. I'm thankful that it kept me safe in the crash.

It got messed up pretty bad, but I choose to remember it like this:

Huh? An accent? C'mon man!

I'm glad they totalled your 86 though. This is the only time when the crappy resale value of this car works to our advantage.

You sound bummed, but you're making a mature financial decision.
Take the money and put it towards bigger goals.

@ApexEight for the win! Sorry about the trouble, but this is definitely the way to go. Pay yourself the car payment and roll the car and the "self payments" into a newer car in a few months. Rinse and repeat until you have the paid for car of your dreams!

I wish people would stop repeating that nonsense. There's nothing wrong with the resale value of these cars. Based on the average depreciation curve, a 2014 should now be worth between 10K and 13K. Edmunds puts it right in that range, but good luck finding one for that cheap. KBB puts it right around $15K, considerably better than average. They may be cheaper in one of the few cities where they're plentiful, but in most places they're beating the depreciation curve.

But they are soooo expensive new that I should be able to get that much when I sell. Hell, if the 1959 Studebaker Lark can go up to ten times it's new cost these cars should as well!
