Vented hoods and snow

Got a seibon cf ts style hood and in canada.
How bad would it be if snow got in?

About as much as if you get rain in it.

Just be glad it isn't a whistle pig moving in.

This depends on your setup. Water getting on things isn't new and typically at worst will cause corrosion / surface rusting of unprotected surfaces.
Your biggest worry is if you have an open element intake setup and it's dumping water on it, or if you have unshielded header/exhaust components. Great example - a high front mounted turbo with a conical filter will typically be pulling air right from where an optimum hood vent will be. Cool, until water comes in and the turbo's air filter accumulates water in it. Or when you're beating on the car and the downpipe is blazing hot, and you have water dripping on it eventually possibly weakening the metal. To further clarify, the real worry is when the car sits for a while and gets snowed on. The heat melts the snow, and it possible sits in the intake. WHen you start the car back up, the melted snow will now be a cup or more of water that you run the risk of the turbo sucking in.


TL;DR- If you can be sure water is not dripping on the turbo downpipe, or accumulating on an open element air filter, you're fine

I'm having the exact same debate in my own head. I want to run vents, but I run an open intake filter with no shielding, and my turbo sits up high, front and center. I know that snow will melt and pour onto the downpipe and onto my filter, so until I can find a way to stop that, I'm going to just leave the stock hood on or have two hoods that I'll swap (pain in the ass) based on weather / if I actually need to drive it.

Yeah thats my issue right now. Got the greddy kit and didnt think it was gonna snow today and it's accumulating snow

If you're worried, take the filter off the turbo and wrap the turbo in a plastic bag. Keep the filter in the car until you need to drive- this way you aren't risking it getting wet, and the turbo isn't taking on water either

I just bagged my filter and turbo isnt getting hit with snow so thats fine i think

I disagree.
Rain will flow away and only what directly hits it will go in.
Snow will build up and eventually push much much more in the vents.
I personally would be blocking the vents off for the winter.

Easy enough to do from the bottom
