Well that sucks. Hopefully, your tuner can figure it out.

I want to join this list of owners but I am completely noob and don't know jack about turbo's & it's parts. Tried to read the past few posts but seemed so lost. Also are there any fullblown approved installers located close to Toronto, Canada LOL

Nice to see that mag is still out there. I should scan in a picture of when my 1998 Chevy Cavalier Z24 made it in reader's rides in like 2000, haha.

You should have your tuner check that they are using the right dwell maps for a turbocharged application and that your AFRs are staying in the appropriate ranges. It sounds like you may be far too rich after cold start and maybe too rich when the meth kicks in which is going to also cause misses and stumbles. You may also not be getting perfect meth distribution causing some cylinder to be too rich or too lean which can also cause problems. When going after AFR problems, datalogs are your friend. |

I'm going to have to learn how to take and record data logs.
The tuning part I had planned on just leaving to the tuner. This is my first "tuner" car. My last car was a BMW 135i, which I bought the Vishnu Procede tune for, and it ran perfectly for 20,000-plus miles without any probs until i sold it. I really hope I can get my BRZ tuned to where I can just get in and drive, and not worry whether it's going to run right. |

I can check to see how far that is. The install is about 1 to 1.5 days.

I just installed the SPAL fans and shrouding. How much room do you guys have between the fans and the downpipe? I can almost fit a finger. I'm about to try and wrap the downpipe which means it'll be pretty damn close. Is this too close?
Should I get the brackets for more clearance? [not my car]

You can gain the most clearance by relocating the lower mounting points forward up to 1.5". Relatively easy, basically just drill holes forward of the originals, and a little grinding needed to allow the radiator to move forward.
The lower radiator posts rest in/on a rubber grommet. When you move the radiator forward, you can either drill small holes for just the posts and use a rubber washer as a pad, or you can drill a larger hole and refit the whole grommet. The lower radiator hose easily stretches to do this. The upper mounts will give a little extra clearance, but you'll probably have to install a longer radiator hose. |
