Subscribed. I've heard the same thing about removing the cat from a local stx competitor. Have you noticed any gains after removing the cat?

Anything in the torque dip area? I was hoping to do the same thing to help with the gap, but I'm guessing it'll need a tune before anything is really noticeable.

Not sure, but it's not like it eliminated it. I really only expected it to help in the higher RPM. Once I'm tuned I'll start looking for a dyno day, then I'll be able to compare curves.

I just cried a little as I hit submit on the steering sensor order.
According to the techstream software it's either not communicating or stuck at 1.8 degrees. Fingers crossed a new one fixes it. |

Interesting weekend.
Took Friday afternoon off to get a few more items out of the way. The stock muffler is ridiculous. Installed the muffler delete. -26lbs. Put a etx9 battery in that I had laying around from there miata. This is a temporary setup just to test if the battery would work. Seemed fine, in fact I forgot about it by the end of the weekend. I'll make a nicer mount now that I know it works. -24 lbs. Saturday I finished 17th in pax. I'm ok with this considering the suspension is pretty much stock, new car(to me) and I skipped the last two runs because I had to leave early. Sunday the results haven't been posted yet but I'm sure I slipped a bit. Hit comes on the first two so I had to make a bit of a safely run. plus, blew the entrance to the slalom and a Couple other minor mistakes. Probably left close to a second on the table. Again I had to leave after the morning runs so..... Fastest run from Sunday. Mowog 2 run 3: [ame]http://youtu.be/yWkkLMeHIwc[/ame] I can't figure out how to embed from my phone. :-( The good news is the car feels decent. Fairly compliant, could probably reduce the understeer just a bit but I also need to add more rear camber. I'll probably put the rear konis in too. Yes, I just quoted myself. Replaced the steering angle sensor and all is right with the world. The car is now 100% functional. As long as I had the steering wheel apart I took a few min to remove all the carbon fiber sticker the po put on the silver trim. To shed a little extra light on my performance at the last event Saturday I was 1.2 sec back from top pax and Sunday 1.7 sec back. I think this will shrink considerably once I get suspension. Need more low! Received my moto-east tune. The 93 tune filled in the midrange nicely. I could tell quite a difference when I switched back to 91. Ugh, I probably won't use that much. Can't wait to test e85......although I probably won't get to use that much either, not legal for stx and its not convenient at most of the tracks I go to. |

Why not a race gas tune then?

Not a bad idea. Race gas is $$$ at the track and I'm trailerless this year, so driving to track will be a step back in what I can bring. At some point I'll just deal with carting jugs to the track. I'm just not there yet. Plenty of other stuff to work out first.

Well that escalated quickly. While I was planning on putting together a set of Koni/GC these fell in my lap. RCE Tarmac II coilovers with 500lb springs. I also picked up a set of vorschlag camber plates. Go big or go home I guess. The vorschlag camber plates are awesome, really beefy and I love the large axial bearing but this comes at a cost, it has a large stack height, I'm almost at the lowest setting on the shocks and still just less than 1" drop.
My first impression is it's quite amazing how plush good quality high sprung suspension can be. I learned this with my Miata too. Friday I'll be banging curbs at Road America so I'll really get a good idea of how they work on track then. Here is how it sits now. I might lower it just a bit more. The car is loaded with Project Mu Club Racer pads and ready for the track. When I get back the next weekend is another autox so I'll get a feel for the setup in STX mode. Had a great time at Road America. The car worked great overall, and with a bit of tuning(and better driving) could be quite fast. The car had just a hint of understeer which I left since RA is a fairly high stakes track. The back of the car also felt nervous in some of the fast sections that unload the car a bit. I'm attributing this to the muffler delete.
Chilling in the paddock Went through 37 gallons of gas This picture really can't do it justice but this sunset was amazing. Video of my fastest lap. 2:44 I know there is more time out there as I was taking it pretty easy though the kink. I'm guessing a 2:43 wouldn't be out of the question for me.
