i do have the Carb tune in my computer and no i do not need it as i live in italy, having Tuned many of them and also people who had the Carb tune before, it is indeed not so good. maf scaling is off for the majority of cars, no engine load limiter at low load, cam timing thst have no sense and make abrupt swinga, too rich, timing too low, it just gives you a good "pull" in open loop, then when you drive at low speed low engine load, it drive shitty. Exactly like the OP stated

Also the things about custom tuning giving BARELY any gains is false, specially for stock Internal with stock compression, but if you are stating so it makes me think you have actully no real idea of what we are talking about

I feel sad for people forced those aproximative Carb tunes

are these on 100% stock cars aside from the JRSC or cars with no cats and full exhausts? it makes a big difference

I opted for the JR C38 factory tuned kit, which of course comes with the ECUTEK and a tune for the System.

So while doing "spirited" driving the setup feels great, loving the extra power.

That said, during normal civilized driving I.E. low rpm (below 3000 or so) slow acceleration etc its a bit.. rough. when accelerating at partial throttle it is not smooth, i can only describe it as "lumpy" which I admit sounds kinda retarded, but you get the idea its just not a nice smooth pull.

Also at idle the rpm surges up and down from 500 to 1000 rpm and twice now (in 3 days) the car has just died while in neutral at a light.

Ive been around FI cars a while and I know the symptoms of a boost/vacuum leak but that doesn't seem to be the issue, and of course Ive checked. My guess is its the tune.

From what I understand then "factory" tune that is included is based on a car that is otherwise stock and the SC being the only mod. I have a fully cat-less setup, so Ive got more flow, so I think the factory tune is very likely sub optimal.

So, coming from openflash (when I was running NA E85) there were quite a few "off the shelf" tunes for different setups (header/exhaust etc) is there anything like that for this system or do I have to dole out more $$$ to get a custom tune, if that's the case what E-tune company do you guys like the most?

Thanks for any help and answers!

- Jason

I also have a c38 and while i cant speak for the factory tune because I'm small pulley, I will ask how long did you let it idle after you flashed it? Even after a 10 minute idle for the ecu to relearn everything I still has a weird idle and if i clutched in too fast at a stop the engine would die. Zach said shitty idle control makes a subaru a subaru. About 1/2 way thought the tank it stopped doing that and it is now a certified ripper.

But like others have said it might be your tune but I think id start with the easier and cheaper step of idle relearn first.

Unhappy

I spoke with Chris at Jackson this morning and he confirmed that yes I do need a custom tune, that I can certainly drive around with the CARB tune but basically try to avoid high rpm and or WOT until I get a custom tune.

He told me to reach out to Zack at Counter space which I've been trying to do but when I call the only option is to leave a voice mail.

So it looks like I spent an extra $1000 for the ecutek and factory tune and I'm going to be out another $600 or so for a tune and an apparently another $100 or so for a map sensor ...

on the plus side you have all of the ecutek stuff already so that whole $1000 wasn't wasted. I just paid $1150 just for the ecutek and tune on an NA car

Thumbs up

Counterspace couldn't seem to return my calls so I called delicious tuning and somebody actually answers the phone there so I went with them.

Nice folks.

I Ordered a map sensor and the JRSC tuning package from them.

E-mail is always preferred (per the recorded message you heard when you called), as it allows for more punctual service.

While some folks prefer to chat on the phone, a lot of information gets lost in translation, or forgotten. An e-mail exchange is a great reference when you need to go back for more information.

Also, CSG prioritizes servicing customers who have already paid for services/goods, before taking money from new clients when existing clients are still waiting. Apologies if nobody got back to you in a timely manner, voicemails are lowest on the totem pole and are only addressed when all e-mail inquiries are replied to.
