New to cars, so sorry for the dumb question.

What kind of scuff mark is this? Is it like rust from the bolt that got pressed into the (anodized?) aluminum end piece? Wondering if I buy a new set from your website if mine will end up looking like this. If so, I might as well bid on your ebay listing.

Thank you!

difference between new and used. this part is indicated to have been installed and removed from a vehicle, so it's going to have the wear shown in the pictures from the bolts being tightened down. the oem hardware is re-used to install these, so the surface rust of the bolt did transfer some to the powercoated surface.

new won't have any wear marks on it because it won't have been installed anywhere.

but there's not going to be any difference in performance from new vs. used in this case.

I know new won't look like that in the ebay pictures of the used ones. But good to know that it is surface rust from re-used bolts as opposed to the tightened down bolts scratching off some of the powdercoat, which then led to some rust.

i believe those end pieces are aluminum, though i'm not finding the spec right away.

either way, the fact that the bolts didn't cut through the powdercoating, and just 'smashed' it, indicates that the powdercoat was properly bonded to the metal as it's supposed to be to prevent rusting.

These bolts have a surprisingly low tightening torque (12 lb ft) so it's probably not enough to damage the powder coating. Plus, with the end pieces being aluminum ("6061-T6 Billet Aluminum Ends" as listed in the eBay page) they shouldn't rust anyway...

Thanks all!

Now to decide if I bid on these or buy brand new ones. The irrational side of me wants to buy new ones and make sure that I have clean bolts when I mount the strut bars, lol.

Just buy new bolts then? The flanged bolts you need are listed somewhere earlier in this thread, I believe.

Couldn't have said it better myself!

That bolt rust can likely be removed with a rag that has a touch of WD-40 or any other rust inhibitor product.

New bolts are the way to go is you want everything to look pristine.
