I may hv blown my engine. I hv a Sprintex SC tuned to 220ps, with everything else stock. Yesterday i sent my car to install an hks oil cooler kit. Picked it up just now and was driving about 15km with no problems. Suddenly my temp starts to rise gradually and next thing i know when i stop at a traffic light the engine just died. Tried to start but the engine seems heavy and i can hear klanking sound coming from the engine. Currently waiting for tow truck. I hope it's not bad 😖

Got a call from mechanic. Confirm the engine needs to be rebuild. Not sure why yet, but one of the reason could be the engine oil. I changed to a new engine oil, which is petronas 0w-40 high grade oil. Chances are the oil is too thin, hence the blown engine.

Sounds like oil leaked but you'd never know if it's the same mechanic

Hmmm... This is where i get confused. A lot of guys here mention 0w-20 or 0w-30 to be the right weight for supercharged engines. But a lot of the mechanics at my place recommends thicker oil for supercharged engines. I also checked hks website for reference, and they recommend 0w-42 for their supercharged engines. So which is which

The higher the number, the thicker the oil. 0w-20 is what Toyota/Subaru recommends, however it is (IMO) far too thin. I run German Castrol 0w-40 on my NA car.

Any problems with the thicker oil?

Subaru only recommends 0w20 for NA. all turbo motors from subaru runs 5w30, and I mean all... guinea pig all you want with 0w20 and boost.

Avo stated a good weighted 0w20 would be fine with their turbo and tune

I have over 20k miles of 0w-20 oil on my boosted FRS. No issues what so ever running in -10 degree winters, and 95 degree summers.

We've run up to 10w60 - on our dedicated race car. But for a street and light track duty car, I will stick to recommending 0w20. The way Subaru put together this particular FA20 (which is indeed similar, but not the same as the FA20DIT) really points to a lighter weight oil to get through the oil passages at the front correctly, along with working with the bearings well.

I've had no issues with the 0w20, especially the better ones like joe gibbs make, over the last 42,000 miles boosted. If I was going to track it full time I would recommend a slightly heavier weight oil.

None thus far. As always, YMMV.

My previous engine was run on 0w-20 or 5w-30.
