I don't do "drugs" persay. never even smoked weed and the way booze have been making me feel lately I'm thinking I'm just going to quit that for a while. I swear for the last couple of months every time I've had a drink within a couple of hours I've felt like complete and total crap.

Sounds depressing
You need some endorphins, however you choose to deliver them..

- Switch back to days but I lose night time bonus (about 8k)
- Switch back to days going M-F, losing night time bonus + overtime because its straight 80 hours (about 11k).
- Keep current schedule and make what I would be making if I got promoted and working day shift.

I love the money, and the bonus does help push along my plans for the near future. But at the same time, I also feeling normal and hanging out with friends/family on weekends when I'm off rotation (every 2 weeks). Also, car related events such as autocross mostly happens on weekends. Gotta flip my sleep schedule to attend every event.

Dont want to leave current company because I am learning a lot due to what we do...

Oh, forgot to add that I put my name out there for promotion and if I were to get promoted while staying on nights, I'd get close to or possibly match 2 levels above current role's pay - which would further push me along with future goals.....
If it were me, I'd take the day shift.
Not sure how your management/supervisor roles are set up, but we basically don't have any at night.
Sure, it's kind of cool and makes it much more laid back, but it's much harder to be noticed for the work that you do.
I've been trying to get on a day shift for like 4 years now.

Alternately, if most of your leadership is on dayshift, then most of the politics are also on dayshift. Swing shift is a great way to avoid that. At least in the military.

You've put a monetary value on moving to days. 8-11K lost per year. That's 667-917 lost per month. Can you absorb that hit without much stress, or would that makes things tight?

Same happened to me. I decided I needed a break. Smoking too. I equated it to taking an "advance" on my dopamine. And of course when you do that, theres a deficit after. thought it would be just a few months, but very quickly I saw who my real friends were. Noone understood and I ended up changing 90% of my friends. That was all in my mid-20's. it's been 11 years since my last drink. I, and my friends, just outgrew it.

I get "high" off real life now. The outdoors. Friends. Dancing. Sports leagues. Hiking. Teaching sports to my son's. And of course.... that feeling when u hit the redline.. hehe

Reminds me of my best friend. I don't have a lot of friends, so I don't really have access to any drinking buddies. My two choices are drink alone, or drink when I'm with my best friend (he lives out of town so we don't hang out a lot.) For the longest time some sort of drinking was always on our agenda when we managed to hang out since that was the only time it was viable. Not so much anymore. He started getting to the point where he was done after two or three, and now he's got a baby on the way.

He definitely shouldn't be drinking if he's pregnant

I hear ya and I don't even drink that much as it is. might be once a week. Hell I've got beers in the fridge from my spring break vacation in like April.
