Now imagine, if F1 tire changes would have been performed in dealership. You pass keys, and wait. After hour or two at best someone takes parked car inside boxes, even if service time was arranged and you arrived on time. And of course car needs mandatory wash, no matter if you asked for. No biggie, probably in 3-4 hours tires will be changed.

Are these pit stops counted for the race? I.e. is there a reason to do them faster? If so, I'm sure they could shave minutes with a much more organized approach to fasteners - the number of times the guys are hunting for the bolts reminds me of myself in my garage. They could use captive screws on the panels and superglue the bolts on the new suspension.
I wonder how do they keep the alignment correct with the suspension swap? Do they align everything before hand on the car, drop the suspension and keep everything exactly the same? Does that keep alignment well?
Finally, what's the difference between dirt and tarmac transmissions? Or is it just dropped as part of the entire suspension?

They have a limited amount of service time per day between stages (not every stage if I recall) and can get penalized for exceeding their allocated time. Sometimes the repairs are quite drastic and a car might come in with 3 wheels...

I was also surprised to see them hunting for bolts! I think part of it might be that really anything can happen so they have to be a little flexible.

They do alignments during the services as well. Strings or lasers. Even big circuit racing teams will do alignments at the track with strings and/or hubstands. Man I want some hubstands.

My guess is the dirt tranmission is just geared for lower overall speeds but I'm not sure.

I like where this thread has gone. Much more interesting than arguing about STI Brembos for the 8th year.
