Once? Oh I wish I had only done it once. I have probably managed to do it through all the gears depending on what I had for dinner. Not pretty.

Lol.

I checked the intake tubing again @humfrz, this time I did find a loose clamp, so I tightened that. Got on it this morning on the way to work and could still faintly hear the noise. I'm going to check what @ermax suggested soon and go ahead and tighten all of the intake connections as much as I can and inspect the manifold while I'm at it.

Did you make sure the filter is fully seated properly when you did the clamp? If you did the clamp and it reduced the noise it is probably still in that area someplace.

I have, sir. The clamp I tightened was where the tubing meets the air box. I have checked to see if the filter is seated properly and it looked to be good. I'll double check that and compare it to my wife's FR-S.

Also check around the PCV valve area. I haven't had an issue with this car but have had many where this was the source of a vacuum leak. If it is too bad it will trigger a CEL but often it will leak but still function fine so no light.

Sounds good. I'll check that as well.

Checked the intake and buttoned everything up. PCV valve is secure and good.. car is still making the noise. At this point I have no freggin’ idea what it could be.. I beat on the car on the way home and hit near redline a few times, car sounds like it has a damn turbo.. I wish I could get a video, but the wind and exhaust drowns it out and it can’t pick up the sound, nor in the cabin. Noise doesn’t happen at idle when revving either.

I was just thinking. Is it AC related? Does the sound change when you turn off the AC?

I’m not sure. Since this has started I haven’t been running my A/C at all really. Only the heat when necessary. I try not to run my A/C unless it’s pretty warm out. In my BRZ it’s always been a difficult task to shift smooth while running the A/C, seems like the RPMs drop faster for some reason. I assumed that’s normal though, never had that occur with any other of my vehicles.

I’ve test driven a used FRS and BRZ and neither of them sounded like mine.. they made mine sound like something was broken.. gear engagement was a lot better with them as well and didn’t have a lag like feel when the A/C was on like I do mine.

Sounds like a vacuum issue someplace.

Well if that’s the case then it’s been there since I took the car off the lot and has assumingly gotten worse since I’m hearing this air leak noise now. I have another appointment at the dealership next week.. hopefully they’ll hear me out this time..

Ran the A/C, front & rear defrost, and the circulation this morning to see if it would make a difference and it didn't. Still hearing something releasing pressure...

I was just thinking.. You can't hear this noise at idle parked in neutral. Could it be clutch or transmission related? Maybe something free spinning and I get the BOV sound right before everything engages again?

Maybe what you are hearing is the clutch disk slipping.

I suggest you start the car, set the emergency brake, put it in 2nd gear, rev to about 3000 rpms, then S-L-O-W-L-Y let out the clutch until the engine dies.

Listen carefully for that sound coming from the bell housing area.
