Red face Indie music anyone?

...or associated?

Meaning bands from:

Mumford and Sons
Angus and Julia Stone
Damien Rice
The Little Ones
Cursive
Hello Seahorse!
Cut Copy
Passion Pit
The Pierces
Metric
Man/Miracle
Rogue Wave
Young The Giant
Twenty One Pilots
The Decemberists
Ed Sheeran
Birdie
Phoenix

etc...

Truth be told. I'm bored, but also curious of what other good indie bands there are out there some of you might listen to and that I may be missing out on.

p.s. making a playlist for a 3hr drive.

A lot of acts I like in here. Sorry to say though most of these aren't "indie" acts. Most of these bands are signed to major labels. Indie is short for "Independent" (this is in reference to their record label not being one of the "majors").

I know of a few solid websites for Indie exploration. Check out Unsigned http://www.unsigned.com/ . CDBaby http://www.cdbaby.com/ and IndieCharts http://indiecharts.com/Indie_Music_Top_Songs_Charts.php . Emusic http://www.emusic.com/ wasn't bad either, but it's not all indie anymore.

Also John Moreland, Jason Isbell, and Justin Townes Earle are some of my favorites.

Got to listen to a bit of Mumford from my deck a month or two ago. Nice stuff. The really local flavor of similar is Hearthfire - that's not to say there aren't other local groups that cover but that's who I go see.

Not sure if Xymox counts, from my wife's collection, but really interesting.

Most of my collection is classical...

Silversun Pickups, Hey Rosetta, The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys,
And for a local one Night Riots (formally PK).

Also thanks to the others that posted new names out there I haven't heard of.

He's probably doing what I, and a lot of others do. I see indie more as a genre, rather than whether or not they have a record label. When people ask me what kind of music I have a difficult time answering because so much of my music falls into this "category" so I generalize a lot when using the term indie.

Either way, I like a lot of bands in this thread. Another I can add is a band called Margot and Nuclear So and So's, but I can't say whether or not they're actually indie.

BEIRUT.

So cool.

Not sure if it still qualifies as "indie", but I don't think they're quite mainstream either...

I guess we would call it Alternative Rock rather than indie? seemed to start the indie route but now is called alt rock (which i still refer to as indie ha)

Couple bands I really like that I found recently, that as I found out are not very active/not around anymore

Made in Japan, they have a ton of songs I really like. This one in particular

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tu9UC9h_V-E"]Made in Japan - Definitive Pulse - YouTube[/ame]

then Glass Towers, kinda sound like Two Door Cinema Club (who I also like a lot!)

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8H6rDuy_QM"]Glass Towers - Tonight [Official Video] - YouTube[/ame]

Also if you listen to this genre you've probably heard of The Kooks (Bad Habit) but I like this song much more

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThPkg77sv7o"]Sweet Emotion - The Kooks [HD] - YouTube[/ame]

Also in love with this song by Tiny Little Houses (music video is a heart warmer lol)

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uho_daAU7z0"]Tiny Little Houses - Every man knows his plague; and you are mine [OFFICIAL VIDEO] - YouTube[/ame]

I dunno if this is indie but these guys are awesome

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5ZhBAylbN4"]We Were Promised Jetpacks - Quiet Little Voices - YouTube[/ame]

one more for good measure, The Colourist seem to be getting more popular, saw them in Denver one night a couple years ago with a crowd of about 40-50 people lol

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAoT2ze_XHI"]The Colourist - Little Games - YouTube[/ame]
