gt 86 worth 40k!!!???
hi ft86 members i've been following this forum since the ft 86 was announced ( yes the prototype) Now lets get back to the topic lets say i live in a developing country and theres no scion dealership so i have toyota, and they charge 40k (41,450 to be exactly) for the gt 86 and was looking for alternatives to the gt 86 due to its high price (compared to the si) and the only "sporty" car that i can find is the civic si which is 27-28 (thats the price for 2012 when i asked last year don't know about the 2013 but should be less than 30k) and more thing i can't test drive them because they are "special order" i can ask my friend that has a 2012 to test it but he is not here, but i cannot say the same about the 86 because lets say i think theres only 1 in the whole country, so i want to know opinions about if the 86 is worth the 10-12k over the si??
thnks. |

Im struggling with the same problem here.
The starting price here is 46k (in USD) and it takes the fun out of it. The "problem" is that I went to a trackday with Toyota Sweden, with five GT86´s and ran the autocross for the whole day. So now I KNOW i have to have one How´s the price range for a used one in your country? PS. Sorry for the bad English! |

In the end, it all comes down to which car looks better to you? I would choose the Toyota if I were you(granted the extra 12k wont break you down financially). Is it worth it? Hell yeah it is! Moral: Cant make up your mind? Do: Enie menie miney mow!

If you want one priced similarly to the FR-S you're going to have to get the lower spec model (86 or G depending on country).

There's no point in quoting the price of a vehicle in another country's currency due to rpi/cpi.

Imo this car is worth it for its driving fun. Lets say it costs 50k for one. If I dont track, probably not worth it, but since I do track it is worth the 50k to me. Why? Because since I track, track > comfort features. If I dont track then a car with comfort features > track. But everyone has their own ways to evaluate the "value" of a car. I paid over msrp for mine by over 3000 and it was worth it for me even though if I waited it could of been cheaper but because I track mine and imo it's track worth is more than msrp + 3k.
I just reread my response and wow... I need to get some sleep... |

I've payed about 46000$ for my GT86 and not regreting one single $. The Scion may be cheaper, however the GT86 has more "fancy" stuff. Does the fancy stuff justify for the higher price? -> no
Still alot of car for the price. But yes, you have to be a petrolhead to spend this money on the GT86, as you could get easy some Sedans and even a BMW 3series or Mercs (however low end) for the same money
