TIL that VROOM, the car buying service, has taken over a several acre lot about 10 miles from my house for car storage. The lot is next to a train track that has very heavy train traffic, and is less than a half-mile downwind from an open air large concrete manufacturing company.

Even the black cars in the lot are white.

Remined me not to buy a car from VROOM!
The lime for concrete manufacturing mixed with rain will chew through even modern cars worse than any salted road.

That model of the rusted out Datsun pickup I did is the result as it spent it's whole 5 years of life (yes it was only 5 years old when I got it) in a cement plant.

TIL that the coworker that has owned 2 focus st's, and 1 focus rs, and is constantly talking about tuning and modding for more power, can't identify the sound of a bad wheel bearing.

his response? "i really don't know anything about cars"...

I work with a kid like that. He has an absolutely hammered IS300 and thinks they are the greatest cars in the world. I asked him how many vehicles he has ever owned. 2, both IS300's

TIL: A week disappeared in October 1582
Quote:
The most surreal part of implementing the new calendar came in October 1582, when 10 days were dropped from the calendar to bring the vernal equinox from March 11 back to March 21. The church had chosen October to avoid skipping any major Christian festivals.
