So I’m getting the Brembo GT kit (4pot front/2pot rear installed) today…FYI for anyone on 17 inch rims for the base model-a 5mm spacer up front will result in about .5 mm clearance. Wheel can literally hold a paper between the spokes and the caliper….so now I have to buy a bigger spacer and studs asap.

Pics soon.

Was that the paid PPF or just what it comes with from the factory when shipped?

It was the PPF that came from the factory, it does cost a little bit but it's very basic install (seams and lines show everywhere, nothing tucked or hidden).

They don't show 2.5" available for the 22 BRZ/86 on their site for some reason, someone here mentioned Perrin said there was a problem with it and were working on it, only 3" fits for now. My guess was it was something that can be easily addressed and it's a bit of a cover-their-ass sort of precaution, but I don't know that I ever saw what the issue was.
Gen 1 system; I took the chance on it since others did and it absolutely fits just fine so I'm not sure why they took issue with it vs the larger 3" system they say works fine lol.

Friend didn't like the fender vent insert GR being black so tried to spruce it up a bit.

What are the service intervals for the first 3,000 miles? I was planning on driving it across country back home if I found one.

Technically the first service (oil change) is not until 7500 miles. But I ain't about that and still do it after 1k break-in, then probably every 5k miles tops. Toyota just used up one of my included service appointments for the 1k oil change (purchase included 2 years of basic services at 7500 mile intervals).

Short answer, you'd be fine. They say not to drive the car at the same speed for extended periods during break-in, but I've never heard of any actual problems from doing that personally.

Don’t worry about it, it’s pretty easy to do a good breakin safely on public roads. Let it warm up properly and drive it under 4500rpm for 150 miles, but do make sure you regularly load the engine up in that rpm band. Don’t lug the engine under 2500 rpm, but make it do some work between 50% and 80% throttle. After 150 miles most things that are needing to be worn in will be, so you can open up the RPMs a bit more. By the time you hit 500 miles I’d feel comfortable to wring it out (not beat on it yet though). As for the constant RPM thing, just don’t use cruise control for the first 500 miles. It’s not so much about constant speed, they’re worried about the engine sitting at a constant low load and you wont get proper cylinder pressure to seat components while they’re still wearing in. That’s why I mentioned making the engine do some work in the 50-80% throttle range, between 3k and 4.5-5k rpm.

If you have an automatic you can easily use cruise control and still vary the engine load at highway speeds since both 5th and 6th gear are under 4000RPM well north of 80mph. (Set it to manual mode and shift back and forth every few minutes.)

Pull off and back on the highway every 20-30 minutes if you want to be extra careful.

There's a lot of conflicting advice on break-in: I'd say just read a little and decide for yourself how safe is "safe enough" in your book. I put the alarm at 3900 for the first 500 miles, raised it to 4900 until 750 miles, and then 5900rpm until 1000 miles.

Then it was "I paid for the whole tachometer, I'm going to use the whole tachometer".

Ultimately, do it the way that makes sense to you. I knew I'd go nuts trying to stay under 4k for the full thousand miles and, like Yoshoobaroo said, most of the critical wear in happens early on.

Brembos and coils installed

Brembo installation went well, apart from having to buy 15mm spacers and studs to fit the oem wheels that I'm getting rid of in two weeks anyways.

I had to guess where to set the RCE SS1 heights...this is too low for my taste. Will probably raise it about half an inch.

Painted all the machined surfaces in the rear (L/R) that start to rust if not coated. Not circled are the obscured upper and lower control arm bushing surfaces.

I did this because I was installing the OE mudguards.
