Some comparisons in this thread to the 1st gen trans, which I never owned, so I'm curious how this transmissions feels to other owners in absolute terms.

Overall I'm finding it very smooth, and I don't really get a lot of notchy-ness or resistance once it's warmed up. It actually seems to prefer being shifted fast - I can shift between upper gears as fast as I want and without being super thoughtful about it with zero complaining from the car.

The one exception I have is going from 1st to 2nd... I can't for the life of me seem to hit that shift correctly most of the time without resulting in some level of lurch. Interestingly to me, this seems more exaggerated once the car is nice and warmed up. Is that pretty normal with these transmissions or am I the problem? I don't think I'm dumping the clutch too fast, letting the revs drop too much, etc... I can't seem to baby it enough to get it smooth.

So what was? The transmission?
I have no idea in his case.
In my case, yes, the transmission was the problem.

Totally - I'll upload one this weekend when I have a friend handy. It sounds like from your perspective, though, that this isn't kind of a known thing with the transmission which rules out a fast answer. Thanks!

Whoa nelly, no no no, I haven't driven the new car yet.

But I do have tons of experience in slipping the clutch or lurching.

In my old AP2 S2000, it had a clutch delay valve which forced me to slow down my shifts especially 1 -> 2. Once I got rid of it, it was gone. NOT saying the Gen2 twin has it but I've experienced things that make it difficult to do a quick shift from 1st to 2nd.

I just got out over lunch and did a lot of experimentation... I think a couple of things are going on... I'm use to taller first gears and I think I'm just winding it out too much for how unaggressively I'm driving it most times. I'm also trying to protect the clutch too much, and need to let it slip a little more as it syncs up to 2nd. I'll keep playing with it... it does seem a bit touchy to me but I think I can compensate for that with how I manage my shifts.

Thanks for the offer to review and give feedback!

Quick question, has anyone noticed a thunk going into 1st from neutral? Sometimes in other gears as well. Feels like the synchros maybe. Nothing crazy just enough to notice it.

At standstill? I believe that's normal for MT's.

Yep, at standstill and sometimes while rolling. None of my other manual cars did that. This is my 4th.

It’s because the gears in the transmission are still spinning after you push the clutch in, and putting it in gear forces them to stop. If you wait a second after clutching in they will spin down naturally and it won’t clunk.

Hmmm, I should mention this is my first manual RWD car. Maybe it’s a trait of that?
