Coming from a mk6 Golf TDI. what to expect?
So I've been in the Euro scene since leaving my RSX in 2009. Currently in a lightly modded fully loaded 2010 Golf TDI DSG 4-door, lowered an Inch on OEM springs and the rest of the suspension directly from the GTI. Needless to say I prefer good looks, corners, and mpg to all out power. This is where the FR-S couldn't fit the bill for me any better. So here's my questions: What problems have been circling the first model year? what have the automatics been averaging mpg with basic driving, lease vs buying this car, how is interior quality (if quality is what youde call it) holding up, and power gains (officially not butt dyno stuff) from different mods non-forced induction as I will likely never bother slapping a turbo on her. Thanks for the input glad I finally got around to posting here even though I don't own 1 yet

Everyone complains about the interior, but it is a lot nicer than the reviews make it out to be. Ever been in a WRX? The FRS interior is WAY nicer than that and nobody complains about that car.

You're used to understeer when you push the golf, well expect oversteer when you push the FRS. A lot of oversteer. Be extremely wary of cruising around with the TC and stability control off for no good reason. On a track, or in a parking lot? Go for it. Your first day out of the dealership? Leave that shit alone, or it'll bite you.

He's making a comment on the Golf being front wheel drive vs. rear wheel drive... If you haven't driven a rear-wheel drive car before, there is no comparison.
I'm only going to comment on the interior as we have a couple of VAG cars in the family. No comparison unfortunately. VAG does some of if not the best interiors in the business. I have driven the FRS and sat in a BRZ -- I prefer the BRZ. That being said, I'm in the 40+ crowd so I felt the BRZ is more my style and preference at this point in my life. While not as "posh" as a VAG, I like how the interiors are simple and all business. If you want a more upscale interior in a rear drive sports car, you'll need to step up to a 370Z (I'm not a fan BTW). A piece of advice from another noob -- a lot of the questions you ask have been touched upon ad nauseum. You'll find a plethora of information using the search or just browsing the different forums. No better way to make the natives restless than coming in and asking all of the standard questions again. Please take my advice the right way -- just trying to help. |
