Toyota 86 featherweight build
Just bought a new 86 last week got rid of my 16' Mazda 6. Looks like ive been a member for a while but this is my first post. Also own a C5 corvette which I have been building up. Must say I really love the lightness and tossabililty of this car and have been driving it more then the Vette. I must confess I am a weight reduction addict in relapse already took out rear spare and tools and will be looking for a lithium battery up front to keep the stock balance. Anyway heres my first pic from the dealer.

Will be looking for new shoes in the meantime painted these with a graphite wheel paint found in pepboys. The quality of the paint came out great just wish it was a darker shade, has crystals in the sunlight OK for now.
Primer ![]() Finished ![]() Also had some old G2 Caliper paint around looked like a darker shade of red. Not one to normal draw attention to such small brakes but will keep them looking good for now. ![]() Trust me Just getting started ![]()

Love wrapping interior pieces. Heres a pic of my my vette with a combination of Alcantara, Leather, and CF vinly
![]() ![]() Had a roll of Brushed Black Metallic wrap left never used. Gives a suttle look anythings much better than the crappy silver paint. Still have to do the Hvac sides and want to do the center vent. ![]() ![]() ![]() Just started on wrapping the console in alcantara I had leftover very close match to the granlux used by the factory. Still need to add some trim to cover the area where the cupholder area is since that will stay plastic. ![]()

Finished wrapping today was waiting on new can of 3m Primer
Finished the center console with trim around the cup holder area and got an 86 badge ![]() Wrapped the silver where the HVAC controls are ![]() ![]() Wrapped the center vent but in hindsight I would leave it alone. Was not able to completly cover it. Just made a very clean cut around the border ![]() Steering wheel finshed with the useless buttonless plastic is covered in Alcantara to make it comfy. And a TRD badge for kicks ![]() All put together ![]() ![]() ![]()

Cheap silicone hose came in from aliexpress. Very nice quality for the price.
Had fitment issue with the resonator had to taper with a dremel to fit ![]() Every thing else fit very well but it pulls a bit to the right. Could be differences in the '17 box. ![]() Just waiting on Blitz filter to finish off. Didn't cap off the cabin tube yet as I want to hear the sound with new filter

The Perrin tube would be a good upgrade down the line. Doesn't have holes for the sound tube or resonator to disrupt the airflow. The removal of the resonator is actually better sounding and louder than the sound generator with resonator.

I love the custom wrapping job. One thing I don't like about the '17 compared to my '13 is the interior seems really dark in the new one.
I like my red stitching accents! |

well I was reading old search links where the car still gained a hp with the resonator. Not so much the sound tube Have done a lot of personal research on Helmholtz resonators and wave cancelations. I believe when the throttle body shuts that air rushing in needs somewhere to bounce back too. Stored in the resonator like a reservior. Then is released when you open up again. Of course I could be wrong.

Yeah my corvette has red stitching in the interior and it looks great. But I want this car to be different and am happy they made it white/grey. White means I can also dye the stitch any color I want in the future if I get bored but I think it looks classy this way. The car looks darker with the silver accents wrapped with the brushed black as well. I thought about a matte white or grey cf I guess I'm trying to grow out of the boy racer look now that I am getting older. Plus its the color I had laying around from a few years ago so basically Free to me!

tomorrow morning starts the beginning of the $$ mods.
Cant wait to try the MeisterR coilovers. So far has good reviews and they look to be of nice build quality. The rubber coated coils on the spring should keep noise at bay. And the softer spring rates in the rear should make daily driving still nice. ![]() went with Racer X for their LCA's. Really works of art. I went with these over others because they are supposed to be easy to adjust while still attached to the car. Don't really trust any local mechanics so wanted to make it easy as possible to get right. ![]() More importantly ![]() Coating everything in this and letting soak in overnight. Recommended by others on the board to keep the rust at bay. ![]() And will be rolling with the stock wheels for a bit until work bonus comes in mid summer. Really doing this to see how much offset looks right on these cars WITHOUT POKING OUT! Really getting annoyed at reading all these wheel threads where people keep saying "wheels fit great!" and they stick out a half inch. Sorry not trying to drive around like this / \ -Rant over 20mm front, 25mm rear. ![]()

This will just show the spacers on stock ride height. Wanted to get some baseline measurements before installing coilovers.
Like how the spacers have a removable center for hubcentric area. Should be able to get a new center if you change wheels later on with a different bore. ![]() Think this car can handle a little more poke but not much more. 20mm front, 25mm rear seems dead on. This changes the stock calculations to 7" wheels +28 front, 7" +23 rear when I punch #s into wheel offset calculator. ![]() ![]() ![]()
