Also, how does a 5th gear over rev happen anyways, it would have to be on down shift, so how fast were you moving in 6th gear to set this failure up, jesus? If it was 3rd gear I would understand, but 5th?

Stories like this make me want to service mine at dealer so there is no confusion about things like OEM filter being the wrong color or some such thing. |

The warranty language says "comparable" so any properly speced filter should be fine.

That is all the info I got over the phone with the service advisor, will know more once I see the papers.
I was scratching my head on that overrev too...car never saw above 111mph on the day it happened. Engine blew 2 laps after this. I did hear some weird sound on that last turn...not sure if its mine or car in front. I feel a bit bummed out and disappointed. I've been an instructor for the region's Porsche, BMW and various other clubs, I have pretty much been a ambassador for the 86 platform for the pass 7 years at the HPDEs. I'd still recommend a 22+ UOA thread be created for those who have skin in the game. There was a long running one for us peasant 1st gen'rs.

Regardless how this motor blew up, at this point it's overall concerning the number of motors that have popped. I understand it's technically not that many, but it seems to be growing. I've never owned a subaru, but I have friends that have, and I've seen all the meme's, and maybe these motors just aren't up to the task or I'm used to other platforms being significantly more robust.
Personal opinion, but I don't think anyone should be tracking these cars without at the least an oil cooler. I understand it can "void" your warranty, but it seems like these cars need all the help they can get. There has to be an oiling issue, maybe even oil pan baffles are required in conjunction with an oil cooler. As to why street car motors are spinning bearings at 12k miles, that is another mystery all together. |

The US Toyota site shows SU00308412 for the GR86 only. It shows your part number for 13-20. Where did you get the part number?
