Getting the itch to spend a lot of money. Attached garage addition or just move to a new house with a bigger garage?

Tough choice. I imagine both have a ton of paperwork involved. The former you can build it how you want but might need to make compromises for your specific situation. The latter, you have new house problems, and you are limited to what is on the market.

Actually both are paperwork and compromises. My goal is a nice 3+ car garage with enough room in front of the cars for my workbench/toolbox and enough room between the cars to do jumping-jacks. A roof high enough for a lift and so the F350 can actually be parked indoors.

I currently have a tiny 2 car that barely holds my 2 BRZ's. When they are in the garage you can't really even walk past them either.

On the current house I don't really have a lot. The house is smack dab in the middle of the property so I only have a little bit of yard on all sides. I think my only option would be to cut out the current driveway and extend my current garage. The problem being city building codes dictate that your garage/house must be X amount set back away 30'+ from the road. I might be able to add on 8-10 feet to the current 2 car which isn't worth shit.

New home means much more money, and limited to what I can find as building one is out of my price range. Even when jumping up to the 300k+ price range I still can hardly find houses with more of a garage than one for parking cars.

I know the smart option is to just sell some cars but... but... until I find a wife I will have 4 racecars. :P

Really just wanna buy a steel building and throw a microwave and couch in the corner. :P

Lol my wife jokes that I bought the garage with a house attached. It's really a jumbo sized 2-car but it's more room than I had at my last house.

Yeah, adding on doesn't seem like it is worth it on your lot. Better off getting a bigger lot or someplace with a large garage already. The problem is that most houses focus on living space for normal people so larger than 2 car garages are pretty rare. At least in my experience that is.

Do you really need 2 brzs though?

Just wait for a new place. I've been fighting for permits to extend my garage closer to the road and add a loft apartment above; I'm just going to buy a house with it and more land. Better than settling

One turbo one supercharged. How else we gonna know which is better, youtubers and internet forums? Not really though. I just haven't sold my old one yet as I'm hoping to find deals on a few more parts to get it in tip-top shape. The spot is already reserved for a Porsche anyway.

Yep house hunting ATM is just as bad as when I bought this place. They sell within hours. Just as frustrating is that when you upscale the garage the house always seems to double in size and price too which isn't wanted.

I suggest you look into buying a piece of land that is large enough to build a large separate garage on and enough space to build a house on if and when you find a wife at some time in the future. As you mentioned, your "garage" could have modest living quarters incorporated into it.

Think of all the advantages to having a place with "your" garage and "her" house - win-win situation, ask any married man -

As cheesy as it sounds, this is exactly why I stopped fighting to build a loft above our attached garage. I just want my own damn building, so that when I say I'm " going to the garage" it doesn't include bringing a laundry basket with me or watching the door to see if she's standing there waiting for me to notice so I can receive a complaint about noise/smell/duration of my endeavor. Not that I don't love seeing her there, but sometimes I want to focus and it's tough when using Brakleen means I'll receive a complaint minutes after

This is a view of my daughter and son-in-laws place here in Puyallup. The house has a two car garage (for her car and his DD). The detached 3 car plus garage is heated and has a lounging (read escape) section.

They get along just fine -

There is a lite snow this morning. The wife went out to go to the post office and the wipers on one of the trucks aren't working. Shit. Always something.

Hell yeah, that's the way to be! Super cool, they just need 5-10 more acres between them and the closest property to be perfect
