I left it there for the next guy. I think one of the directors took my office after I left. It had windows with a nice view of the helipad.

Maaan, this is getting rather heavy.. I feel sorry for employees who have worked for large organisations for shit load of years. When they leave/retire, they just dissappear, no mention of their work or input.. just gone!!

On the flip side, in between working for large companies, I worked for a small family owned business, the Chairman's PA had been with the company 30plus years and the Chairman didn't even know it!!

I say fuck it!! Resign, move to Canada, buy a truck and a lumberjack starter kit and go chop some timber..

At the start of the COVID pandemic way back in 2020 when everyone thought this could be the end of civilization, the company I work for used it as an opportunity to slash costs by reducing headcount. We were all working from home when the notice went out that 20% of the employees were let go. The victims were selected apparently at random. They included some recent hires, some long term employees and even some department heads. None of them got any sort of goodbye.
And of course less than a year later HR is complaining that they can't find workers for all of the job openings they have.

This takes on a whole new meaning in the pandemic work from home era. If someone is sitting at my desk after I leave it means I'm divorced or dead.
